Android 14’s native share sheet within Google Photos is now rolling out more widely،

Last month, a change was spotted on Google Photos showing that Google was preparing to ditch the custom share sheet used by the app in favor of the one used system-wide on Android. Now it appears that this change has started rolling out to Google Photos users on Android 14.

The share sheet is the menu that appears when you press the share button on your Android phone, which shows you a list of apps and people you can share the content with. This is the case for most Android apps, however, there are a few exceptions to this rule, one of them being the Google Photos app.
When you attempt to share directly from Google Photos, you’re presented with a personalized version of this sheet that prioritizes sharing within that same app. In this version, you see “Send to Google Photos” at the top, followed by the names of contacts you’ve already shared photos or albums with, as well as options to create a whole new group, use Nearby Sharing, or create a Google Photos. link. While you can still choose to share with other apps, this option is pushed all the way to the bottom with very little screen real estate.

However, last month it was discovered that Google was preparing to change this in some of its own apps and opt for the more consistent system-wide sharing system that Android offers. This would mean that while you’ll still see some Google Photos-specific options at the top of the share sheet, options for sharing outside of the app will now appear more front and center.

In the new version being rolled out, you will now see a small preview of the featured image as well as editing options with the markup tool, links to some Google Photos specific actions such as creating a link or adding/creating albums. , followed by options for sharing directly to external applications that the system-wide share sheet is known to facilitate. It was originally thought that it would begin with the public release of Android 14but it apparently takes a little longer to roll out more widely.

According to reports from Mishaal Rahman and 9to5Google, the new Share Sheet appears to appear in version 6.56 of the app for Pixel 8 Pro users on Android 14 firstly, while it has not yet been rolled out to large screen devices such as the Pixel Fold or the Pixel Tablet. Additionally, it also appears that the new Share Sheet will not appear for users on Android 13 or earlier.
