After months of waiting, Meta's Twitter/X rival app, Threads, is finally expected to launch in the European Union on December 14, 2023. Although an official announcement has yet to be made, an account at Hidden countdown on the Threads website points to the imminent arrival.
With just under six days remaining, time is running out for this exciting expansion. The countdown is quite similar to the one used for the app's initial launch in July. Notably, this timer is only visible to users in regions where Threads is not yet available.

Citing “regulatory uncertainty ahead,” Meta spokesperson Christine Pai alluded to the potential impact of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). The legislation, designed to limit the power of tech giants like Meta, Microsoft and Apple, imposes stricter rules around user consent and data protection. Although Meta has been officially designated as a “custodian of the platform” under the DMA, it remains unclear what specific changes, if any, were made to the Threads app for the EU launch in order to to comply with these regulations.
