Apple Notes app crashing for many after iOS 17 update and there is no fix in sight

The Apple Notes app is one of the core apps on iOS and one of the best examples of the power of the Apple ecosystem.

It syncs effortlessly across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, supports different formatting styles, and generally looks great. And unlike other notes apps with cross-device syncing capabilities, it's also free to use.

Unfortunately, after Apple released iOS 17, the Apple Notes app continues to crash for an increasing number of users and complaints have been piling up for months (an example is this thread on Reddit). For the moment, no solution is in sight.

The problem seems to be related to iCloud sync, specifically, as most users facing this issue report that once iCloud sync is disabled, the app would work normally. But as soon as syncing is turned back on, the app crashes moments after opening, so it's impossible to write new notes or even search and view your old notes.

Users have tried various tactics to try to resolve this issue, and a small number of users have apparently had success with this one: hard-pressing the app and taking a photo/scanning a document. Some also suggested simply deleting the app and reinstalling it.

So if you have the same problem, you might want to give it a try.

Your other option is to open a ticket with Apple, so hopefully the problem will be noticed more quickly by the company's engineers.

Yours truly has also been suffering from the same problem for months and none of the suggested solutions work so far.
