Google Assistant changes: Prepare for 17 feature shutdowns،

Voice assistants are very handy these days for finding information or getting things done, and many people use them – about 146 million in the United States alone. Now, Google Assistant, one of the most popular, is about to see some changes.

In a recent blog post, Google announced that it was streamlining its Assistant, saying goodbye to nearly 20 features. The goal? Improve quality and reliability, aiming for a smoother Assistant experience across all devices. Starting January 26, if you try to use any of these features, you may be notified that it bows after a certain date.
Here's a look at some of the features that were highlighted:
  • Voice control of audiobooks on Google Play Books is complete. You can still stream them from your mobile.
  • No more managing recipe books on Google Assistant: transferring recipes, instructional videos and step-by-step guides are removed. But fear not, because you can still use Google Assistant to search for recipes online and on YouTube.
  • No more setting media, music, or radio alarms on Google Assistant devices. Instead, you can create a custom routine or use a standard alarm.
  • Managing timers on smart screens and speakers will be a thing of the past. But don't worry, because setting timers and alarms is still an option.
  • Voice calls on a device or broadcasting to your Google Family Group will be prohibited. You can, however, stream to devices in your home.
  • Sending emails, video or audio messages with your voice will no longer be an option. However, you can still make calls and send text messages.
  • No need to ask for contact details anymore. You can always call them.
  • No more Google Assistant driving mode app launcher on Google Maps for messages and calls. However, you can use voice control on Google Maps in the same way.
  • Voice control for activities will no longer be available for Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 devices. Instead, you will have to use the buttons on your device to control activity. Pixel watches still support voice control for activities.
  • Calls from smart speakers and displays won't show caller ID unless you're using Duo.
  • Voice verification of personal travel itineraries is complete. However, you can always inquire about the flight status.
  • Voice actions such as sending payments, making reservations, or posting to social media will no longer be supported. However, you can still ask Assistant to open your installed apps.

Google doesn't just remove features; It also improves your experience in the Google app. Now the microphone icon triggers search results in response to your queries, streamlining its most popular use. Activating Assistant remains the same: just say “Hey Google,” press and hold the home or power button (on some Android phones), or open the Google Assistant app on iOS.

However, the microphone icon in the search bar no longer supports actions like “turn on lights” or “send message.” This also applies to the Pixel search bar, which will enable voice search instead of Assistant. To ensure you have the latest version of Google Assistant, you will be prompted to upgrade the Google app if you are using an older version (v12 and earlier).
