Xiaomi confirms retiring MIUI for Hyper OS: Here’s what we know about the change،

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, which completed its 13 years in 2023, is soon ready to make a major software change. Earlier this month, rumors were circulating that Xiaomi would abandon MIUI and replace it with a new operating system. Now the rumors have been confirmed as the company announced that Hyper OS will replace MIUI. The Xiaomi Hyper OS which will retire the 13-year-old MIUI will be used in Xiaomi’s smartphones and tablets.

CEO confirms new operating system

Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi confirmed the development via his Twitter/X account. He wrote- “Today marks a historic moment. After years of collective work, our new operating system, Xiaomi Hyper OS, is about to make its official debut on the Xiaomi 14 series.

The CEO also informed that HyperOS will gradually replace MIUI in older tablets and phones that run it.

Hyper OS Deployment Details

Although it has been confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 series will be the first to run Hyper OS, it is unclear whether the new operating system will be available on Xiaomi phones globally or not. When a user on X asked Lei Jun the same question, he simply responded with a “Stay Tuned” followed by a smiling glasses emoji. This seems to hint that all Xiaomi smartphones worldwide will receive HyperOS and MIUI will no longer be a thing.

About HyperOS

There have been rumors recently that MiOS and the company have registered the Xiaomi Pengpai and Xiaomi Hyper trademarks. Although the English text says HyperOS, the Chinese text translates to “PaperOS.”

It is not clear whether Xiaomi migrates every year to an operating system based on an Android version like ColorOS, OneUI or FunTouchOS, keeping the latest version of Android as a base. Currently, there is hardly any information about the difference between HyperOS and MIUI or its new features. Since it will be launched with the Xiaomi 14 Series, we will surely know more in November, when the series should become official. Xiaomi 14 is also one of the first smartphones to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
