Credential Manager for Android goes public so app developers can support passkeys\u060c<\/p>\n

Google announced today<\/a> the public rollout of Android’s new Credential Manager starting November 1, 2023. The Credential Manager will make it easier for Android users to sign in to apps securely with passwords, a new passwordless authentication standard exceeds.<\/p>\n

The company’s new Credential Manager API will allow developers to automatically guide users to the most convenient login method for their account, including access keys. This will also allow users to easily switch between multiple accounts and choose their preferred password manager for logging into apps, even if the app<\/a> doesn’t natively support passwords.<\/p>\n

Access dongles have been the subject of much conversation in the tech world lately, with tech giants like Google<\/a>, Apple, and even Amazon singing their praises from mountaintops while expanding the grip responsible for their use on all their platforms. This is no surprise, however, given that passwords provide a more secure and convenient way to log into apps and websites than traditional passwords, not to mention they are resistant to phishing attacks and are easier to remember.<\/p>\n

However, until now, there hasn’t been an easy way to use passwords across all your apps because support wasn’t as widespread and it was complicated for app developers to take. Support multiple connection methods. Now, with the public API available for Google’s Credential Manager, app developers will be able to more easily adopt their use and integrate them into their individual apps, without having to worry about maintenance and integration costs.<\/div>\n
Several apps already support passwords and were able to do so by integrating Credential Manager, which has been in testing for over a year, including Uber and Whatsapp<\/a>. It is hoped, however, that this support will increase now that it is more widely available.<\/div>\n
