Elon Musk<\/a> on October 29, 2023 announced a “slight change” in creator monetization on the author will not get a share of the revenue from the post. The idea behind this, according to Musk, is to prioritize “accuracy over sensationalism.”<\/p>\n Shortly after Musk tweeted the change, users criticized it, saying that a group of people can easily target someone even if they post something factually correct. A user who goes by the name @simonateba writes that Community Notes is being misused to target conservative accounts and therefore demonetizing posts with notes may not be a good idea.<\/p>\n In a follow-up tweet, Musk also mentioned that attempts to deliberately correct someone’s post or “use community ratings as a weapon to demonetize people” wouldn’t work, because X runs on code open source. The new rule discourages misinformation or false information about X.<\/p>\n Community Notes are a crowdsourced method of verifying the accuracy of a tweet. Basically, this allows other X users to correct information or add context to a tweet. If enough contributors find the same remark useful, X displays it with the post so users don’t believe or spread misinformation.
