A former NRL player accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Brisbane is in mediation with the complainant, a court has been told.<\/p>\n

Former Brisbane Bronco Teui ‘TC’ Robati has been charged with one count of sexual assault, following an alleged incident at a Brisbane nightclub in December last year.<\/p>\n

Previously, Mr Robati’s name was suppressed due to Queensland’s long-standing laws prohibiting the identification of people accused of time-barred sexual offenses before they are brought before a higher court.<\/p>\n

However, new laws were introduced on October 3, allowing those accused of these offenses to be publicly named.<\/p>\n

Mr Teui did not appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, where his case was briefly discussed.<\/p>\n

The court was told Mr Teui and the complainant, who cannot be named, were involved in ongoing legal mediation in a bid to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n

Judicial mediation can only take place if the complainant has consented to it and the respondent intends to take responsibility for his actions.<\/p>\n

The matter was adjourned for further mention on January 12.<\/p>\n

At a previous court appearance in March this year, the court was told the Director of Public Prosecutions would likely transfer the case to his office if mediation failed.<\/p>\n

Mr Teui remains free on bail.<\/p>\n

He was cut from the Brisbane Broncos in February before the start<\/a> of the NRL season.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the process of finalizing this season’s squad, forward TC Robati has been released from his contract with the club,\u201d the Brisbane Broncos confirmed in their February statement.<\/p>\n

Mr Robati had made just 17 appearances in two seasons with the Broncos.<\/p>\n
