BMW tells iPhone 15 users not to charge in new vehicles; Apple preps iOS update\u060c<\/p>\n

BMW drivers are specifically complaining about these issues on social media sites like Reddit<\/a>. <\/div>\n
A BMW driver bought a iPhone<\/a>15<\/span> and plans to trade it in for an iPhone 14. His Reddit post explains it all. “I just bought a iPhone15<\/span> and I also have a BMW. I haven’t activated it yet and I’m thinking of returning it and getting the 14 instead, since the 15 has issues and the specs aren’t that different it doesn’t seem worth it. Upgraded from 12, works great on BMW charger.”<\/div>\n
Okay, here’s where this argument goes wrong, assuming he’s talking about the base iPhone15<\/span> model. MacRumors<\/a> reports that in an internal Apple memo sent to Apple Authorized Service Providers, the company admitted that charging a iPhone15<\/span>, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max using one of the many in-car wireless chargers could temporarily disable the handsets’ NFC capabilities. Chargers are integrated into some recent BMW and Toyota Supra models. Apple certified technicians must use Apple Service Toolkit 2 software to get the NFC chip working again. If this doesn’t work, the phone will need to be opened so the hardware can be repaired or replaced.<\/div>\n
Since NFC connectivity is used to activate Apple Pay, iPhone15<\/span> Series users affected by the issue may receive a message in the Wallet app<\/a> stating “Unable to set up Apple Pay” even if Apple Pay has already been set up. Apple says it will fix this issue in a software update coming later this year. Since iOS 17.1 has already been released, we have been able to see this bug exterminated in iOS 17<\/span>.1.1 or iOS 17<\/span>.2. Hopefully this will also resolve the overheating issue and other issues that iPhone15<\/span> users of the series have dealt with.<\/div>\n
