The search giant seeks to provide important background information and context about images in Google Search.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;About This Image&#8221; does its best to give you an idea of \u200b\u200bwhere on the web a given image has appeared in the past and how it has been described (via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/10\/25\/23931384\/google-about-this-image-context-sources-fact-checking\">The edge<\/a>).  The new feature is accessible from the three-dot menu in search results and <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/google\/\"   title=\"Google\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Google<\/a> Images.  Google already offers an \u201cAbout This Result\u201d feature to help users verify text sources.<\/p>\n<p>When discussing the origins of an image, you can expect to see its metadata \u2013 only when available \u2013 as well as vital context about how it was described by news and fact-checking sites. made over time.  \u201cAbout this image\u201d should potentially indicate whether the image you are inspecting was AI-generated or not.<\/p>\n<h2>Can I view images on social media?<\/h2>\n<p>Currently, Google is still developing a way for users to check any given image on the web, not just those in Google search results.  Google&#8217;s plans, as explained earlier this year, include an option to make the tool available via right-click or long-press on an image in Chrome or by &#8220;swiping up in the Google <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/app\/\"   title=\"app\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">app<\/a> when you&#8217;re on a page and you come across an image that you want to know more about.\u201d  Google says work on its Fact Check Explorer hasn&#8217;t stopped.  The tool launched in beta this summer allows users to search for image verifications by uploading an image or searching using its URL.
