Google's Material You design language sparked a visual overhaul in 2021, first with Android 12. While Android's appearance hasn't drastically changed since then, we've seen subtle improvements. But, as discovered recently, Android 15 promises to shake things up by focusing on the humble volume panel. That familiar panel \u2013 the one triggered by pressing a volume rocker and tapping the three-dot menu \u2013 is overdue for a refresh. Five thin volume sliders (media, call, ringtone, notification and alarm) currently dominate, along with buttons to access full sound settings or close the panel completely. Active media playback points to an output switch option. This tried-and-true layout borrows directly from the \u201cSound & Vibration\u201d page in Settings, using a feature called \u201cslices.\u201d <\/p>\n

However, as discovered Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority)<\/a>, Android 15<\/span> breaks free from this mold. Screenshots from the latest Android 15<\/span> Developer Preview 2 reveals a bold new volume panel with large pill-shaped sliders. A clearly visible dot marks the maximum volume, and tapping a stream icon mutes it easily.<\/div>\n

But here's the kicker: Android 15<\/span>The volume panel is also foldable. A single press will collapse or enlarge the panel, which is perfect for keeping things compact when media isn't playing. There's now also a constantly visible media output shortcut, another handy upgrade.<\/p>\n

Google<\/a> even added fun animations: the stream name dances next to its slider, and your current volume level appears as you adjust it. This is a testament to Google's attention to these small UI details when it comes to material design.<\/p>\n

Features could also increase. Although not yet active in testing, the redesign hints at additional controls for spatial audio and “noise control.” The update isn't live yet, not even in the developer preview, unless you change the code.
