Let's say you're about to use your Google Wallet to pay for a Metro bus or train. Now, if you have a transport card, you do not need to verify your identity. But if you do not have such a card, the reader will automatically use a payment or debit card in your virtual wallet and normally, using these cards for any purchase will require you to verify your identity using the fingerprint scanner digital or by pressing your PIN code. It can be slow and when you want to get on a city bus or train you want to speed things up.<\/p>\n

To help you speed up the purchase of a bus or city train ticket, Google<\/a> has added a new feature that will allow you to not have to verify your identity when using a credit or debit card, but only when of paying for public transportation.<\/div>\n

Google is adding new “verification settings” in Google Wallet that will allow users to “choose whether you need to verify your identity when using your payment methods and passes in Wallet.” You'll check using your device's lock settings, like fingerprint or PIN.” To access the new settings, open the Google Wallet app<\/a>, tap the profile icon in the top right corner, then Tap Wallet Settings If your Wallet app has been updated, you'll find the new Security section which only lists “Transit Payments” at this time. <\/p>\n

Under \u201cPaying for Public Transportation,\u201d Google writes: \u201cCheck before paying for city bus, subway, and more with a credit or debit card.\u201d If you tap on \u201cTransit Pay,\u201d you'll end up on the full Transit Payers page that says: \u201cChoose if you need to verify that it's you. The “reader will first search for transit cards”, which “will never require verification.” If there are none, a “credit or debit card may be charged.”<\/p>\n

On the \u201cTransit Payments\u201d page, you will be able to enable or disable the required verification. Google writes: “If required verification is turned off, you won't need to verify your identity before paying for transportation with your default credit or debit card, even when your phone is locked. You'll still verify everyone else payments with this card.” If time is of the essence, disabling the required verification will allow you to pay for the city bus or train without having to verify your identity.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that even if you turn off required verification, you will still need to verify your identity when using the wallet to pay for any other type of purchase. And that's important, because turning off this setting doesn't mean someone can steal your phone and use Google Wallet for shopping.
