The second generation of a production node typically brings improvements in stability and power consumption, rather than a huge improvement in performance. So Apple could actually use it to add features instead of clock speed.

References Apple A18

A recently leaked performance score of the purported A18 series of chipsets running the most popular benchmark suites has appeared from the vast confines of the Chinese blogosphere, and it's a real madness.

The Weibo posts were later removed, but a few snapshots clarify that they are based on pre-production builds and reference cards. Apple could therefore decide to further adjust the performance/features/power consumption ratio for retail. iPhone16 combined.

The first pass shows somewhat improved results which show that the A8 processor could be much faster than the current A17 processor. The pass doesn't specify what clock speed the chipsets were running at, but the second round of A18 tests released show a more credible performance score that's roughly in line with the current generation.

<picture style="padding-top: 116.15508885299%"></picture>

Alleged Apple A18 Geekbench Score

iPhone 16 Pro graphics

Where the iPhone16 The Pro series could, however, shine in gaming, computational photography, and other departments that need a powerful graphics subsystem.
