Today's flagships are stunning in terms of photo delivery: They act more and more like dedicated cameras, and today's mid-range models are catching up to the flagships of yesteryear.

There is something for every taste. If you need a 1-inch sensor in your phone and like handsets from the Far East, there's the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, Xiaomi 14 Ultra or vivo X100 Pro.

If you're a Cupertino fan, there's nothing better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max right now.

If you use Android, but don't like Chinese brand phones, you're looking at the Google Pixel 8 Pro… or the Galaxy S24 series.

All of these cameras benefit from AI assistance, but the Galaxy S24 goes even further: this handset was presented as an AI phone!

Let's take a closer look at Samsung's ProVisual engine and what he does.

Animated photo

Capturing break-dancers was until recently a nightmare for smartphones. Today, things have changed and phones are capable of taking burst photos. Additionally, they choose the best image from the burst.

Samsung's Motion Photo captures a short period of motion in action and compiles it into a single animated image (in cases where the environment is insufficiently lit, Motion Photo can be automatically turned off and night mode will be activated instead. By pressing on the opposite moon symbol at the bottom of the screen, the user can turn off night mode and return to Motion Photo).

<picture style="padding-top: 70.5%"></picture>

In the Editor application, Galaxy S24 Users can select any given image in the Motion Photo file to save it as a standalone image. With AI auto-scaling, the selected frame can be saved as a high-resolution image consisting of 12 MP for richer details. Motion Photo also offers Super HDR features.

Motion Photo has another useful feature: it can provide long exposure type images. From the Gallery app, users can compress the entire three-second animated photo to create a single long exposure image. This allows you to capture, for example, the spectacular movement and color of an aerial fireworks display in a single photo.

Instant Slow Motion (and How It Works)

Many moments in life lend themselves to slow motion images. Although videos already captured at “normal” speed can be converted to slow motion clips. On the Galaxy S24this is done using intelligent AI Frame Rate Conversion (AI FRC) technology.

THE Galaxy S24 The series can turn 24fps HD videos to 60fps UHD into slow-motion epics. FHD 240fps to UHD 120fps slow motion videos can go even further with super slow motion. By generating new intermediate motion frames based on the already present video, Instant Slow-mo delivers impressive results. Starting in late March, Instant Slow-mo will be expanded to support 480×480 videos at 24fps, allowing users to easily create video content suitable for social media.

Here’s what AI Frame Rate Conversion (FRC) technology does:

First, AI FRC takes every two frames of the video as it was originally recorded and uses a deep learning model to analyze and extract motion information.

Extracting this information establishes the differences between frames and helps AI FRC interpolate intermediate frames that slow down the video.

This process is performed twice – in square dimension and in reverse dimension – to improve the accuracy of the new additional images generated.

Then, two fusion processes are performed: Fusion Map and Residual. Fusion Map detects and extracts 2D edges to help detect motion differences between frames, while Residual adds additional corrections and post-edits to fine details for increased accuracy. This allows the feature to create accurate intermediate images extremely quickly.

Once this is complete, the outputs from these two processes are merged one last time to render the final AI-generated intermediate frames that give the video both smooth slow motion and meticulous detail.

<picture style="padding-top: 79.6%"></picture>

Natural density filters

Natural density (ND) filters, typically used with professional cameras to manage light exposure, reduce noise, or extend exposure times, are essential for improving photo quality. The Galaxy 24 series elevates this concept by incorporating 10 separate ND filters directly into its camera system, eliminating the need for external mounts.

This built-in functionality allows a greater degree of creative freedom and control for the user. By blending multiple images and assessing movement within the scene, ND filtered images capture a single, static image that vividly conveys the dynamic movement of subjects like waves or waterfalls, providing a realistic snapshot of movement.

<picture style="padding-top: 89%"></picture>

The Galaxy S24’s camera technology: a closer look، Mobile photography is all the rage: everyone wants in on the action!
