Cool feature on Android 15 will open up space when you need it without deleting an app\u060c<\/p>\n

Google is bringing a cool new feature to Android 15 called App Archiving. According to Mishaal Rahman, writing for Android Authority<\/a>, this feature will allow an Android user to generate more space for downloading an app or saving another image, or for any other reason. But here's the thing: instead of uninstalling an app<\/a> and then reinstalling it when you need it again, you'll be able to archive an app instead of uninstalling it; this will save you from having to configure it again when you need to use it.<\/div>\n
App archiving is currently a Google<\/a> Play Store feature and not an Android feature. But that will change when Android 15<\/span> is released and the feature will run at the operating system level. Rahman figured this out after discovering on an Android 14 QPR2 beta update that Google supports app archiving at the OS level. It was able to show “Archive” and “Restore” buttons in the settings app. Rahman adds that after the release of Android 14<\/span> QPR3 Beta 2, it was able to fully enable Android's built-in app archiving feature. <\/p>\n

In a video<\/a> we've embedded in this article, Rahman shows how he archives the Uber app, which takes up 387MB of storage. After pressing the \u201cArchive\u201d button, the Uber app weighed only 17.64 MB, a reduction of 95.4%. When Rahman clicks “Restore”, the app is downloaded by the Google Play Store and reinstalled. Not only is it still logged into the account, but the app hasn't lost any data in the process.<\/p>\n

In Android 15, users can enable the Android version of App Archiving which can automatically archive an infrequently used app.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Android version of App Archiving will not only manually archive apps, it will automatically archive apps that you don't use often. In an app's app information page, if you enable “Manage app if not in use”, Android will remove permissions, delete temporary files, stop notifications, and archive the app if it has not been used for a while.<\/p>\n
