Facing fierce competition from Huawei and other major domestic smartphone makers, Apple is doubling its research efforts to stay ahead of the game. In a statement provided to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/big-tech\/article\/3255102\/apple-expand-applied-research-labs-shanghai-and-shenzhen-iphone-sales-weaken-worlds-largest\" class=\"external\">South China Morning Post<\/a><\/span>    (via <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2024\/03\/12\/apple-to-expand-research-facilities-in-china\/\" class=\"external\">MacRumors<\/a><\/span>), Apple has revealed plans to strengthen its research center in Shanghai, with a focus on supporting all of its product lines. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the tech giant plans to open a new laboratory in Shenzhen by the second half of 2024. This new facility will be dedicated to testing and research, focusing on key products such as the iPhone , the iPad and the Vision <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/pro\/\"   title=\"Pro\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Pro<\/a> headset. <\/p>\n<p>The company highlighted that the upcoming facility in Shenzhen will strengthen its collaboration with local suppliers and provide support to local employees.  Apple Vice President and General Manager for Greater China Isabel Ge Mahe expressed pride in fostering stronger ties in China and expanding the company&#39;s presence there.  She noticed :<\/p>\n<div class=\"quote quote-auto nolinks\" style=\"width: 100.0%\">\n<p>We have already invested 1 billion yuan ($139.2 million) in [the existing] applied research laboratory in China.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The recent moves follow Apple&#39;s pledge to increase its capital spending in Greater China, the company&#39;s third-largest global market, after the Americas and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>This strategic shift follows a 24% drop in iPhone sales in mainland China during the first six weeks of 2024.
