Previously discovered Adaptive Touch feature is heading to the Pixel 9 series\u060c<\/p>\n

Last month, we told you that Google was working on an Adaptive Touch feature<\/a>. A string of code discovered in February by Android expert Mishaal Rahman read: \u201cTouch sensitivity will automatically adapt to your environment, activities, and screen protector. \u00bb In other words, rain or sweat, which might normally prevent a Pixel's touchscreen from reading inputs, will work thanks to Adaptive Touch.<\/div>\n
While Rahman discovered the code in Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1, he wasn't sure if the feature would be included with the Pixel 8a and Pixel 9. Now, according to Android Authority<\/a>it says new code found in latest version Android 14<\/span> The QPR3 Beta 2 update refers to Adaptive Touch as a “P24” feature, meaning it will be available in the 2024 flagship. Pixel 9<\/span> And Pixel 9<\/span> Professional handsets. While the feature will debut in 2024 Pixel 9<\/span> series<\/a>, what is not known is whether Google will or even can offer it to previously released Pixel models.<\/div>\n

This is a typical Pixel ploy used by Google. Offer a feature that debuts on the latest flagship Pixel releases and keep it exclusively on those phones for a while to generate business for them. After a while, the feature may be extended to older Pixel models capable of running it. Think about how Google promoted Magic Eraser for the Pixel 6 in 2021 and about a year and a half later made the feature available for all Pixel models. Even non-Pixel Android users and iOS users subscribed to Google One cloud storage with the Google Photos app<\/a> installed can use Magic Eraser.<\/div>\n

If Google plans to release Adaptive Touch with this year's flagship Pixel 9<\/span> series, it will be interesting to see how much promotion such a feature receives. Is this the kind of thing that can lure iPhone<\/a> or Galaxy S users away from their current phones and give them the impetus to upgrade to Pixel 9<\/span>?
