{"id":29110,"date":"2024-03-05T02:42:39","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T23:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/29110\/ex-nfl-wr-braylon-edwards-stops\/"},"modified":"2024-03-05T02:42:40","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T23:42:40","slug":"ex-nfl-wr-braylon-edwards-stops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/?p=29110","title":{"rendered":"Ex-NFL WR Braylon Edwards stops alleged assault of man, 80"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ex-NFL WR Braylon Edwards stops alleged assault of man, 80\u060c<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>DETROIT \u2014 Former NFL player Braylon Edwards intervened and saved the life of an 80-year-old man who was attacked in the locker room of a suburban Detroit YMCA, police said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Without this intervention, we could very easily be talking about someone&#39;s death,&#8221; Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, authorities have filed attempted murder charges against a 20-year-old <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/man\/\"   title=\"man\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">man<\/a> for the incident at the recreation center Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards, 41, said he was &#8220;just minding my own business&#8221; when he heard an argument over loud music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe noise gets louder, and then you can hear pushing and shoving, so you know what fighting is like,\u201d Edwards told WDIV-TV.  \u201cBut once I heard a loud noise, that\u2019s when I got up and turned around.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data- media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data- media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">Braylon Edwards, who played eight seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Jets and Browns, is credited with saving the life of an 80-year-old man who was allegedly attacked at a YMCA in suburban Detroit. <cite>Tom Szczerbowski\/Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cHe absolutely saved this man\u2019s life,\u201d King told the Associated Press.  &#8220;I&#39;ve been a police officer for 29 years. When these attacks continue, very bad things can happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The chief said the victim was in critical but stable condition at the hospital Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald did not mention Edwards by name, but said, &#8220;I commend the witness who came forward and we will seek justice for this victim.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\"><p>&#8220;He absolutely saved this man&#39;s life. I&#39;ve been a police officer for 29 years. When these attacks continue, really bad things can happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><cite>Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King on Braylon Edwards<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>McDonald called it a \u201cvicious and senseless attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alleged attacker appeared in court Saturday and remains in custody on $250,000 bail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, it\u2019s what you do,\u201d Edwards said of his decision to get involved.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards, Michigan&#39;s star wide receiver, was a first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2005.
