{"id":29026,"date":"2024-03-04T17:18:41","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T14:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/29026\/barcelonas-de-jong-pedri-out\/"},"modified":"2024-03-04T17:18:43","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T14:18:43","slug":"barcelonas-de-jong-pedri-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/?p=29026","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona&#8217;s De Jong, Pedri out until at least April &#8211; sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barcelona&#8217;s De Jong, Pedri out until at least April &#8211; sources\u060c<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-meta\">\n<ul class=\"authors\">\n<li>\n<p>Sam Marsden<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Moses Llorens<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"timestamp \">March 4, 2024, 1:02 p.m.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Barcelona have suffered a double midfield injury before the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/start\/\"   title=\"start\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">start<\/a> of the season, with Frenkie de Jong and Pedri both set to miss next week&#39;s crucial Champions League match against Napoli and the trip to Atl\u00e9tico Madrid in La Liga.<\/p>\n<p>Sources have told ESPN that De Jong will be out for around a month after Barca confirmed he sprained his ankle ligament during Sunday&#39;s goalless draw against Athletic Club in La Liga.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (US)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tests carried out on Monday revealed that Pedri is suffering from a thigh problem after also failing to finish the match in San Mam\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Given Pedri&#39;s recent injury history, there is hesitation in putting a time frame on his return to action, although he is not expected to reappear until at least April.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pedri started his recovery work on Monday with the sole objective being to return to full fitness &#8211; not focused on a certain moment of a concrete match,&#8221; a source told ESPN.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data- media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data- media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">Frenkie De Jong injured the same ankle for the second time this season. <cite>Photo by Alex Caparros\/Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>De Jong and Pedri join Gavi on the sidelines, leaving Barca short of midfield at a key moment of the campaign with the Champions League last 16 second leg against Napoli coming up.<\/p>\n<p>THE <em>Blaugrana<\/em> will host the Italian champions at the Olympic Stadium on March 12 after a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Diego Maradona in the first leg last month.<\/p>\n<p>Xavi Hern\u00e1ndez&#39;s side also have important games coming up in La Liga as they look to secure a top-four finish and keep their fading title hopes alive.<\/p>\n<p>They host Mallorca on Friday, then travel to Atl\u00e9tico on March 17 before the international break to try to narrow the eight-point gap that separates them from league leaders Real Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>If Bar\u00e7a progresses against Naples, they will then have a potential Champions League quarter-final at the start of April, with the second La Liga match. <em>Classic <\/em>of the season against Madrid scheduled for April 21 at the Bernab\u00e9u.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time this season that De Jong has sprained his ankle.
