However, each of these lenses is capable of showing you colorful images, and Oppo calls this the world's lightest binocular AR glasses. They weigh approximately 50g (1.76oz) and were designed with comfort and all-day wear in mind.

Oppo has made many technological advancements to refine the frame and deliver a solid experience with the thin optical see-through displays. The resin waveguides for imaging are just 0.88mm thick and carry image data from tiny MicroLED projectors that can provide up to 1,000 nits of brightness per eye. The lenses have a refractive index of 1.70 – very close to glass's 1.5 index – which results in reduced rainbow effects when outside light hits them.

<picture style="padding-top: 66.666666666667%"></picture>

The Oppo Air Glass 3 comes with speakers in the bezels, intended for calls as well as interaction with apps. To improve privacy and the quality of the user experience, Oppo uses what it calls “reverse sound field technology”: people in the immediate vicinity should not be able to hear what is coming from the Glass's speakers 3, which is a sound intended for your ears only. Despite this, Oppo claims that the sound quality for the listener is rich and deep.

To work, the current Oppo Air Glass 3 prototype must be paired with a modern Oppo phone with ColorOS 13 or higher. Control of the glasses is done via touch buttons on the frames.

The Oppo Voice assistant and functions

The big news here is an all-new AI voice assistant, running on Oppo's big AndesGPT language model. The AI isn't on the glasses themselves: you need to be paired with the app on a smartphone to interact with it (plus, it's currently only available in China). AndesGPT would be effective for searching information and grouping queries for slightly more complex tasks, like planning a trip.

<picture style="padding-top: 66.666666666667%"></picture>

When it comes to functions, the Oppo Air Glass 3 currently covers the basics of voice calls, music playback, and color image browsing. Oppo plans to add a teleprompter, navigation, timer, translation as well as health and fitness information in future versions.

Clearly, Oppo plans to go through a few more prototypes before launching something like this, or an evolution of this product. The Air Glass 2 prototype was demonstrated two years ago and progress has been steady until now. Oppo also recently launched an AI center which, among other things, will explore ways to integrate AI with AR and XR in the future.

So we don't have a launch date or even a window.
