X (formerly Twitter) expands audio and video calls to all users\u060c<\/p>\n

X, the social network formerly known as Twitter, is expanding its audio and video calling capabilities. Previously reserved for Premium subscribers (what was formerly called \u201cTwitter Blue\u201d), this feature will now be accessible to everyone on the platform.<\/p>\n

As reported Engadget<\/a>Enrique Barragan, engineer at announced the expansion<\/a> via a publication on the platform. This was done citing Elon Musk's promise in January that it would come to all users when the feature was robust enough.<\/div>\n

The move brings X closer to Elon Musk's goal of making the platform an “app<\/a> for everything,” as he has so often expressed. Calls were added for iOS users last year, followed by Android, but only paid subscribers could use them. <\/p>\n

How it works?<\/h2>\n

THE official support page<\/a> indicates that you can control your audio and video call options from direct message settings. From here, you'll notice that by default, you can receive calls from accounts you follow or have in your address book, as long as you grant X access to your address book. However, to call another user, the caller and recipient must have been in contact at least once via X's direct messages (DM).<\/div>\n

This doesn't mean you can't allow calls from everyone on the platform. If you're feeling adventurous, you can go ahead and do just that by enabling this option. However, if you're considering doing so, our advice would be to also enable the new 'Enhanced Call Privacy' setting, which hides your IP address from people you call and receive calls from. In fact, you should probably enable this option anyway if you plan to call people from X.<\/div>\n

Updated calling features are not instantly available to everyone. X is rolling them out slowly, probably in batches, and it appears they are automatically enabled without prompting. If you don't want to make and receive calls on X\/Twitter, you may need to log into the app and go to your direct message settings to turn the feature off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
