A new series of incredibly detailed reports analyzing the performance of America's three major mobile network operators across the country has been released. published by RootMetrics<\/a>and instead of one big winner, two carriers can now claim victory in two areas of equal importance.<\/p>\n

Believe it or not, the only player in the industry's “big three” not winning any truly major trophies this time around is Verizon<\/span>, which somehow continues to dominate the market in terms of wireless subscribers and revenue. Of course, this could well change before long given T Mobile<\/span>The recent immense progress in several key departments related to customer and financial figures, especially if the “Un-Carrier” can also continue to improve the largest 5G network in the United<\/a> States.<\/div>\n

Three 5G battles, one undisputed champion<\/h2>\n

These are T-Mobile's playgrounds, and the gap between the leader and its rivals in the two key categories makes the 5G competition not much of a competition at the moment. Magenta incredibly offers the best 5G availability in 109 of the 125 major metro markets, strengthening its already exceptional total of 98 individual wins in the first half of 2023.<\/div>\n

T Mobile<\/span> also keeps Verizon<\/span> and AT&T trailing in the 5G download speed department with 69 trophies, although that number is actually far lower than the 85 gold ribbons earned in the first six months of last year. Both Verizon<\/span> and AT&T have clearly managed to significantly improve their 5G speeds in many areas with the help of recently acquired and deployed C-band spectrum, but the silver and bronze medalists will need much more progress in the future to hope to end up playing in the same league as T Mobile<\/span>… at one point.<\/p>\n

Somewhat surprisingly, AT&T and Verizon<\/span> were statistically tied for the overall mobile performance title, but it's hard not to see Ma Bell as the only real winner here.<\/p>\n

This also makes T Mobile<\/span> the only real loser nationally, once again highlighting how much room for improvement there is for Magenta's “obsolete” but still very important 4G LTE network. After all, 5G is unlikely to reach true ubiquity anytime soon.<\/div>\n

Magenta also has a lot to worry about when it comes to its metro area's overall performance, with Verizon<\/span> actually in the lead thanks to an imposing combination of an unrivaled 4G base and a rapidly improving 5G layer on top of that. At the state level, AT&T managed to stand out Verizon<\/span> with 249 to 229 awards while T Mobile<\/span> has only won 76 trophies, which is certainly not a great number by any standard.<\/p>\n

But T-Mo can at least settle for once again producing the best median download speed score in the United States… by a landslide. But even in this category, it's hard to ignore Verizon<\/span> and AT&T's solid progress from 77.9 and 77.3 Mbps to 111.9 and 108.9 Mbps, respectively.
