Google-made Galaxy S24 AI tricks prove Pixel doesn’t need Tensor (but Samsung needs Google)\u060c<\/p>\n

But wait\u2026 Why on earth is Google allowing Samsung early and exclusive (!) access to some of its most valuable AI features that make the Pixel as special as it is? The answer is\u2026business.<\/p>\n

Google and Samsung are closer than ever and they don't try to hide it. Samsung makes the Tensor chip that powers Google's Pixel phones, while Google is now returning the favor by sharing its most powerful AI algorithms with the new Samsung. Galaxy S24<\/span> Telephone (s.<\/p>\n

Building on their existing relationship, the partnership between Samsung and Google is now stronger than ever. The South Korean tech giant is making modified Exynos (aka Tensor) chips for Google's flagship Pixel, while Google is giving Samsung access to proprietary software and AI features even before the Pixel 8 doesn't get them!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>So this all seems like an incredible deal for Samsung, as the Galaxy S24<\/span> the phone series also becomes the first Android Phones<\/span> (after Google's Pixel) to offer seven years of Android operating system updates. But what does Samoogle's friendship and benefits mean for the Pixel phone and Android as a whole?<\/p>\n

When it comes to the Pixel, the question that perhaps immediately came to mind was: Do we really need Tensor, which (as is becoming clear) is not what makes the Pixel smart?<\/span><\/p>\n

Given that most of the Pixel's AI features are now available on Samsung's Galaxy S24, which is powered by two different chips (Qualcomm's Snapdragon and Samsung's Exynos), it's now clear that these are the AI \u200b\u200balgorithms Google's AI that makes the Pixel smart – not the Tensor chip. Respectively, this makes Tensor seem more like an enterprise-focused product than a core part of the Pixel phone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But it gets even more interesting, because (as Ben Sin discovered) the AI \u200b\u200balgorithms\/features created by Google seem to work smoother and faster in the market. Galaxy S24<\/span> that on the Pixel 8<\/span>. And don't be shocked when I tell you that the only possible reason would be the S24's more powerful CPU, GPU, and NPU. To put it bluntly, it now appears that Tensor holds the Pixel 8<\/span> back. Even more than before. With that in mind, the ball is now in Google's court… Make the next Tensor SoC powerful enough that the Pixel can run its entire suite of AI tricks as quickly as it should, or go back to Qualcomm chips?<\/p>\n

My Pixel 8 Pro<\/a> takes a long time to process AI-related tasks. Especially those related to photos and generative AI. What's stopping me from recommending a Galaxy S24 over a Pixel 8, when I know that Samsung's flagship will perform better than the Pixel even when it comes to features developed by Google and for the Pixel ? <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Galaxy S24 and Google's commitment issues: Is Google's priority to make the best Pixel phone possible? create the best possible version of Android or make the best possible business decisions?<\/h3>\n

Looking at the bigger picture, I can't help but wonder what Google's priorities are. Apparently, being the world's leading data center, the creator of Android, and a phone maker isn't an easy balancing act to achieve.<\/p>\n

Is Google striving to make Android better than iOS – in its role as a software company, or is Google striving to make the Pixel better than the competition – from a phone manufacturer?<\/p>\n

But if that is the case, why? Galaxy S24<\/span> get early access to AI features not yet available on Pixel? And why the Galaxy S24<\/span> able to perform the same AI features faster and easier than Pixel, which makes do with a significantly inferior chip?<\/p>\n

Is Google about to draw a fine line between the Pixel and Galaxy's version of Android – with all the AI \u200b\u200btricks and 7 years of OS updates, and the version of Android available for other Android phone manufacturers?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Last but not least, I have a strong feeling about new AI tricks being shared between Galaxy S24<\/span> And Pixel 8<\/span> I might not come to another one android phone<\/span> anytime soon. And if this is indeed the case, that would put other Android Phones<\/span> running on (supposedly) the same version of Android at a distinct disadvantage.<\/p>\n

The reason I think Google's new AI algorithms might end up being exclusive to the Pixel and Galaxy is that they aren't tied to a new version of Android like many new Android features usually are. Android. Instead, these new AI tricks are launching in the middle of the transition from Android 14 to Android 15. Therefore, I don't see how a Xiaomi or OnePlus phone will get them without explicit help from Google.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, I also wouldn't be surprised if the Galaxy S24 is the only non-Google phone capable\/allowed to get 7 years of Android updates for quite a while.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Now, business is business, and Samsung and Google clearly share a lot of that, but treating Samsung's Galaxy differently than the others. Android Phones<\/span>Google can make companies like OnePlus, Motorola<\/a>, Xiaomi, etc. are at a disadvantage compared to the Galaxy (and the Pixel). And once again, this makes me ask:<\/p>\n

  • Is Google now working to make Android better and more competitive overall, and for every phone using Android?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
