LaLiga to hire lip reader for Getafe Bellingham complaint\u060c<\/p>\n

LaLiga said on Friday it would look into a complaint filed by Getafe that Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham called Getafe striker Mason Greenwood a “rapist” during a match.<\/p>\n

The incident reportedly happened during Madrid's 2-0 win at Getafe on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Spanish radio station Cadena SER initially reported Getafe's complaint. The league confirmed the complaint to The Associated Press and said it would use a lip-reading service to determine what happened and then decide how to proceed.<\/p>\n

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United<\/a> in September after the England midfielder left his former club following a criminal investigation into a possible attempted rape which was closed by prosecutors.<\/p>\n

He had not played for United since January 2022 after being involved in controlling and coercive behavior and an assault on a woman after images and videos were posted online.<\/p>\n

English prosecutors closed their case in February 2023, saying “the combination of the removal of key witnesses and new evidence coming to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”<\/p>\n

But United and the player decided it was best for him to find a new club. Greenwood said he “did not do the things I was accused of.”<\/p>\n

Neither Real Madrid nor Getafe immediately responded to AP requests for comment. A representative for Bellingham did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ESPN.<\/p>\n
