Among his 38 victories as a professional, he also won the Tour Championship and the Wells Fargo Championship three times.<\/p>\n<p>Young began the fourth day with a 2-shot lead, but trailed McIlroy \u2013 his playing partner in the final group \u2013 after bogeying No. 6 for his second dropped shot of the round.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline editorial float-r\" data-behavior=\"article_related\">\n<h2 class=\"editorial-title\">Editor&#39;s Choice<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/1705847822_255_Rory-McIlroy-Rory-wins-Dubai-Desert-Classic-for-record-4th.jpg&#038;w=130&#038;h=130&#038;scale=crop&#038;location=center.jpeg\" width=\"65\" height=\"65\"\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 Related<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>McIlroy opened a 3-shot lead at the turn after birdies at Nos. 8 and 9, but came under pressure from Meronk, who made four birdies on his last nine.<\/p>\n<p>The world number 2 lost to number 18 by leading by one stroke &#8211; just like at last week&#39;s Dubai Invitational, when he was beaten by Tommy Fleetwood &#8211; but this time he didn&#39;t lose and closed with a par of 14. -below average overall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was one of those days where there weren&#39;t a lot of fireworks just because the course was so difficult,\u201d said McIlroy, who made eight pars and one bogey on his last nine.  \u201cBut I held on as best I could and luckily no one at the top of the leaderboard did much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meronk (71), recently crowned the 2023 European Tour Player of the Year, was alone in second place and Young, playing in Dubai for the first time, was third after shooting 74.<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy broke a tie with South African great Ernie Els, who had also won the Dubai Desert Classic three times, and began 2024 with a second and a first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great platform to build on,\u201d he said.  \u201cI know I play good golf.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#39;s still a few things to work on,&#8221; McIlroy added, &#8220;but these weeks are great.
