Gerrard extends deal with Al Ettifaq after Henderson departs\u060c<\/p>\n

Steven Gerrard has signed a new two-year contract extension to remain head coach of Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq until 2027, the club announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The former Rangers and Aston Villa manager joined the club in the summer and, despite an impressive start where the club won five of their opening seven matches, Gerrard has overseen a dip in form which has left them without a win since the October 28.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old's contract extension was announced hours after Al Ettifaq terminated midfielder Jordan Henderson's contract, allowing him to join Dutch giants Ajax just six months after joining the club Saudi.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very nice for me and my family and it\u2019s like recognition for a lot of work and commitment,\u201d Gerrard said in a statement.<\/p>\n

We knew at the start<\/a> that it was a big job and a challenge. We had to put in place new infrastructure, such as building a new training ground in stages and building a new stadium. But a lot has been accomplished.<\/p>\n
