In just a few days, Samsung unveils three new Galaxy phones and among them the vanilla <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> The model promises compact size, comprehensive refinement, big performance improvements and even a pinch of magical \u201cGalaxy AI\u201d.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cCompact\u201d is a relative term here: at 6.2 inches, the <span>Galaxy <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/s24\/\"   title=\"S24\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">S24<\/a><\/span> is nowhere near as small as mini phones of the recent past, but in 2024, when most phones come with giant screens larger than 6.7 inches, it does the job.<\/p>\n<div>If we must be even more precise, this new <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> is a bit larger than last year&#39;s 6.1-inch Galaxy S23 model, but in exchange you get a new design as well as many other benefits. The sides of the phone now appear completely flat, much like recent Apple iPhones.  We find that phones with flat sides are easier to grip on a table, so most will probably appreciate this new style.<\/p>\n<div>THE <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> is still likely to have an aluminum frame.  The more sophisticated and durable titanium will only be used on the more expensive S24 Ultra version.<\/div>\n<div>We will know the exact dimensions and weight in just a few days, but don&#39;t expect big changes compared to the previous model.<\/div>\n<p>On the front, the bezels around the screen could become smaller for a more modern look, and we could also have a uniform bezel.<\/p>\n<p>The rest should be the same as before: IP68 rating, USB-C port on the bottom, and power and volume keys on the right side.<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Marbled gray<\/li>\n<li>Cobalt Violet<\/li>\n<li>Black Onyx<\/li>\n<li>Amber Yellow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span id=\"display\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 screen<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Leaks say that <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> gets a slightly larger 6.17-inch screen, and it might have the same 1-120Hz refresh rate that you previously got only on the expensive Ultra model.<\/p>\n<p>New here is the ability to go down to 1Hz for static content, which also means the phone can be more efficient in terms of power consumption.<\/p>\n<p>We are also expected to have thinner bezels around the screen and higher brightness for easier outdoor use.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution shouldn&#39;t change at 1080p, but we don&#39;t really mind as it&#39;s sharp enough for the vast majority of people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">We&#39;ll run our display lab tests and give you a detailed analysis of the S24&#39;s screen quality soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As for biometrics, you have an ultrasonic fingerprint reader integrated into the screen, unchanged from the last generations, and you also benefit from facial recognition based on 2D images.<\/p>\n<div><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"camera\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 camera<\/span><\/h2>\n<h5>Zoom and edit super powers thanks to AI<\/h5>\n<div>Featuring a triple lens system at the rear, the <span>Galaxy S24 camera<\/span> looks a lot like the previous model.<\/div>\n<p>The leaks also indicate that Samsung will use the same main camera sensor for the third year in a row, and there will be no changes to the ultra-wide and 3X zoom camera hardware either.<\/p>\n<p>But don&#39;t rush to blame Samsung for laziness.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors have it that Samsung might finally bring new color science to images, so they no longer look too saturated, and Samsung itself has released some teasers for a set of new &#8220;Galaxy AI&#8221; camera features which will give the S24 &#8220;Magic Editor&#8221; photos and videos.  powers.  We also expect to see sharper recordings in low-light conditions and a few other camera improvements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In another \u201cZoom with Galaxy AI\u201d demo, Samsung shows how you can also get cleaner zoomed photos.<\/p>\n<p>We&#39;ll update this section with many more details as it&#39;s revealed, so stay tuned.<\/p>\n<div><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"performance\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 performance and benchmarks<\/span><\/h2>\n<h5>First phone to take AI seriously<\/h5>\n<p>THE <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> will work on the Qualcomm <span>Snapdragon 8 generation 3<\/span> chip in most markets, but not all.  Some countries are expected to receive a different version, based on a Samsung Exynos chip, and these chips &#8211; while flagship quality &#8211; are traditionally not as powerful.  In the US, UK, and Western Europe, you&#39;ll likely get the Snapdragon version.<\/p>\n<div>And while performance will definitely improve and we&#39;ve seen rave reviews on this new <span>Snapdragon 8 generation 3<\/span> chip, Samsung seems to be focusing more on what it calls &#8220;Galaxy AI.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>Think ChatGPT-like features all around the Samsung interface and camera experience.  We won&#39;t know the full extent of this in the coming days yet, so stay tuned for the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/exciting\/\"   title=\"exciting\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">exciting<\/a> details here.<\/p>\n<p>In pure specifications, the <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> should carry 8 GB of RAM, less than the 12 GB planned for larger models.  Less RAM means background apps will have to reload more often and multitasking might not be as smooth for power users, but we&#39;ll have to test this to see if it makes a real difference.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Just like last year, we expect to see a base 8\/128GB configuration and a second 8\/256GB option.<\/p>\n<p><h2><span id=\"software\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 Software<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div>THE <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> will arrive with Android 14 and Samsung&#39;s latest One UI 6.1 on top of that.<\/div>\n<p>This is the same software we&#39;ve seen hit the market recently. <span>Galaxy S23<\/span> <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/series\/\"   title=\"series\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">series<\/a>, but we still don&#39;t know if all the new Galaxy AI features will be exclusive to the new S24 series, or if they will come to older models.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung has already shown a few demos of the Galaxy AI, and in one of them we saw how to take an ice cream cone and easily enlarge it in the Gallery <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/app\/\"   title=\"app\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">app<\/a>, so photo editing will get a big boost inch on the S24.<\/p>\n<div>Finally, we have yet to hear about any software updates on the <span>Galaxy S24<\/span>.  Previous Galaxy models came with four years of major OS updates and five years of security updates, but the recently launched model <span>Pixel 8<\/span> The series raised the bar with a promise of seven years of operating system updates.  Will Samsung announce something similar?  We&#39;ll keep you posted once we know.<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span id=\"battery\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 battery<\/span><\/h2>\n<h5>Slightly bigger battery, but no change in charging speeds<\/h5>\n<div>With a larger physical size, the <span>Galaxy S24 battery<\/span> also gets an increase to 4,000 mAh, up from 3,900 mAh on last year&#39;s model.<\/div>\n<p>Combine that with a more economical chip, a more economical screen thanks to the new 1Hz refresh rate and all the possible AI improvements, and we could get some decent battery gains.  Of course, remember that this is a compact phone after all and expectations can&#39;t be very high. <\/p>\n<p>We are not as optimistic about the evolution of charging speeds.  For years, Galaxy phones have used 25W charging via wire and wireless charging speeds around 15W, and that&#39;s exactly what we&#39;ve come to expect again on this S24.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span id=\"audio\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 audio and haptic quality<\/span><\/h2>\n<div>Samsung tweaks the speakers on its phones slightly, and while nothing seems to change, if you listen to a Galaxy phone from just a few years ago, you&#39;ll notice the difference.<\/div>\n<div>THE <span>Galaxy S24<\/span> with its larger size, it could also have slightly more powerful speakers.<\/div>\n<div>However, we haven&#39;t heard anything about changes to the vibration motor, so Samsung might stick with the same haptics as in previous phones (pretty decent, but not as good as the best phones).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"alternatives\" class=\"anchor\">Galaxy S24 competitors<\/span><\/h2>\n<div>Rumors say that the Galaxy S24 will likely remain priced at $800, like in previous years. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>And if you look at the <span>Galaxy S24<\/span>, chances are you want a compact phone.
