According to a tweet posted on &#8220;X&#8221; by an Android expert <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MishaalRahman\/status\/1744762602990043389\" class=\"external\">Michael Rahman<\/a> (via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.androidpolice.com\/google-tensor-pixel-phone-upgrade-update-support\/\" class=\"external\">AndroidFont<\/a>), Google is rumored to be considering a very rare &#8220;major kernel upgrade&#8221; for all Tensor-powered Pixel phones.<\/div>\n<div>This would include all Pixel models from 2021&#39;s Pixel 6 <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/series\/\"   title=\"series\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">series<\/a> up to this year&#39;s Pixel 9 series after the new models are released, most likely in October.  Comments left by <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/google\/\"   title=\"Google\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Google<\/a> engineers on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) site indicate that current Tensor-powered Pixels will receive an update to Linux kernel 6.1.  Pixels powered by the Tensor G1 and G2 application processors (APs) currently run on Linux kernel 5.10, while Tensor G3 pixels run on Linux 5.15.<center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wow \u2013 Google may be planning to provide a major kernel upgrade to all of its (Tensor-powered) Pixel phones!<\/p>\n<p>Current Tensor Pixels can be upgraded to Linux kernel 6.1, according to comments left on an AOSP patch by Google engineers.  The Tensor G1 and G2 Pixels currently run Linux 5.10,\u2026 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DyTXg09SsP\">pic.twitter.com\/DyTXg09SsP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MishaalRahman\/status\/1744762602990043389?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/center><\/div>\n<div>The Tensor G4 SoC that is expected to power the Pixel 9 series will also feature Linux kernel 5.15 and will also be updated to version 6.10.  No time frame for the update was mentioned and the only thing expected is that a Linux kernel update accompanies an operating system update.  Android owners would be encouraged to install this update as it would help their Android phones keep pace in terms of performance and allow the phones to continue receiving support from Google.<\/div>\n<div>The Pixel 9 series could include a new member, a smaller-screen version of the Pixel 9 Pro that&#39;s codenamed &#8220;cayman.&#8221;  The unnamed device would sport a 6.3-inch display and fit into the Pixel lineup in the same way the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/iphone\/\"   title=\"iPhone\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">iPhone<\/a> 15 Pro helps make up the iPhone 15 series.<\/div>\n<div>The first Tensor chip customized by Google is expected to be the Tensor G5 SoC which will be present in the Pixel 10 lineup in 2025.
