{"id":18688,"date":"2024-01-09T11:05:01","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T08:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/18688\/wales-british-irish-lions\/"},"modified":"2024-01-09T11:05:02","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T08:05:02","slug":"wales-british-irish-lions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/?p=18688","title":{"rendered":"Wales, British &#038; Irish Lions legend JPR Williams dies aged 74"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wales, British &#038; Irish Lions legend JPR Williams dies aged 74\u060c<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Wales and British and Irish Lions full-back JPR Williams has died aged 74, Premier Division club.<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bridgendravens\/status\/1744457384079040735?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\"> said Bridgend Ravens on Monday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Williams, who was part of the golden era of Welsh rugby in the 1970s, captained his country as well as Bridgend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBridgend Ravens are devastated to announce the passing of JPR Williams,\u201d the club said on social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of Bridgend\u2019s most decorated players and an icon of world <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/rugby\/\"   title=\"rugby\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">rugby<\/a>, JPR most recently served the club as club president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams won 55 caps for his country and represented the British and Irish Lions on eight occasions during two successful tours: to New Zealand in 1971 and in 1974 to South Africa.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data- media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data- media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">JPR Williams has won 55 caps for Wales. <cite>Photo by Tim Clayton\/Corbis via Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Williams died Monday following a brief illness, his family said in a statement reported by the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJPR died peacefully today at the University Hospital of Wales, surrounded by his beloved wife and four children, after a short illness, courageously battling bacterial meningitis,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the greatest Lions of all time,\u201d the Lions said.<\/p>\n<p>A <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/man\/\"   title=\"man\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">man<\/a> who inspired so many. It is with great sadness to learn that JPR Williams has passed away at the age of 74. All our thoughts are with his family and friends.
