This is the chipset that will power the Galaxy S24 Ultra in all markets, and the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ in the United States and China. But for the purposes of this article, we are discussing the use of Snapdragon 8 generation 3 for Galaxy for Galaxy S24 Ultra only.

Reserve your Samsung Galaxy S24 phone now and get $50 in Samsung credit!

In his tweet, @TheGalox_alt highlights the difference between the two variants of Snapdragon 8 generation 3 for Galaxy hotspots. One has a Cortex-X4 Prime core running at 3.4GHz while the other has the Cortex-X4 Prime core clocked at 3.3GHz. The version of Galaxy S24 Ultra sold in the United States and Korea (which are designated by Samsung as “U” and “N” markets respectively) will use the version of the chipset with the Cortex-X4 clocked at 3.30 GHz.

Galaxy S24 Ultra units shipped to region “B” will use the Snapdragon 8 generation 3 for Galaxy with the faster Cortex-X4 Prime Core. Unfortunately, we don't know what market “B” represents. We can assume that the chipset with the faster Prime Core will be used on Galaxy S24 Ultra models found in markets outside the United States and China.

There appear to be two models of Snapdragon 8 generation 3 for Galaxy

Model 1: 3.4 GHz clock speed on Cortex X4

Model 2: 3.3 GHz clock speed on Cortex X4

Both power the Galaxy S24 Ultra but in different regions. And while the Prime Core's faster clock speed boosts the phone when playing games, for example, it's still possible for thermal issues to arise, forcing the device to speed up. And this would eliminate any possible advantage for those who wear the Galaxy S24 Ultra outside the United States and China.

We do not expect any thermal issues with the Snapdragon 8 generation 3 for Galaxy running on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung has equipped the latter with a vapor chamber; This is a thin pipe inside the phone containing a liquid that absorbs heat, directs it away from the chipset, and turns it into vapor that travels to the colder part of the chamber. Once it becomes a liquid again, the cycle begins again until the heat is evenly distributed throughout the chamber.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the rest of the S24 lineup will be revealed on January 17 during the first Unpacked event of the year. The event starts at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST. We expect pre-orders to begin the same day.
