Former No.3 pick Paddy Dow will get his second AFL chance, and perhaps the best of his career, at St Kilda after a four-club deal to allow his exit from Carlton emerged on Tuesday .<\/p>\n

Although the league has yet to officially confirm the deal as of Tuesday night, Dow is believed to have been traded to the Saints, with the Blues gaining future picks in return, roughly equivalent to the value of pick 49.<\/p>\n

The midfielder has had a rollercoaster career at Princes Park, unable to live up to his draft third-choice bill of the 2017 crop – ahead of the likes of Luke Davies-Uniacke, Adam Cerra and Aaron Naughton – but leaving fans ask the club why he was not given bigger opportunities in the latter stages of his career.<\/p>\n

Playing 10 matches in 2023 after injuries saw him find a place in the senior team, Dow enjoyed one of the best runs of his career before the final, including 24 disposals and seven clearances in the final victory against Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a favorite of a lot of Carlton fans and they desperately wanted him to get that opportunity,\u201d commentator Anthony Hudson said on Fox Footy’s Trading Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are replacement players, not for any other reason than what you have built up in midfield at Carlton<\/a> and the way Carlton finished their season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you watch with in St Kilda?\u201d You’re looking for something in the middle that will give them that edge; Is it going to be a bit of an X-factor, is it going to be a line breaker, is it going to be a ball usage?<\/p>\n

Bulldogs great Brad Johnson responded: \u201cI think they\u2019re just looking for depth in the midfield.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe very good teams in the competition – St Kilda have improved throughout the year, but a lot of them have around eight to 10 (players) who can rotate effectively within their midfield. So that adds a bit to what St Kilda and Ross Lyon are looking for.<\/p>\n
