It turns out that the Cupertino-based giant is already working on the second-generation Vision Pro, aptly dubbed Vision Pro 2, which will bring a brighter, more efficient display on board.

Apple plans to upgrade display technology on 2027 Vision Pro 2

According to market research firm Omdia, Apple plans to upgrade Vision Pro 2 with an RGB OLEDoS display in 2027. The original Vision Pro uses a WOLED display with a color filter. Upgrading to newer display technology would remove the additional color filter and contribute to greater power efficiency and higher brightness than current technology.

It turns out that Samsung Display (Samsung's display-making arm) is the only manufacturer capable of providing OLEDoS RGB displays. The company manufactures these displays for military use in its recently acquired manufacturing business. If Apple decides to implement the rumored upgrade, it will have to unseat Sony and replace them with Samsung Display.

Sony itself is struggling with limited production and a 50% return rate, which is comparatively lower than market leaders like Samsung Display.

Switching to an RGB OLEDoS promises battery power efficiency, which is crucial for improving battery life on a headset like Vision Pro 2. Plus, it makes the screen even brighter than before, allowing users to more easily see colors, distinguish details and beyond.

RGB OLEDoS uses RGB OLED on silicon, all fused into a single layer and draws light and color from the sub-pixel structure of RGB. On the other hand, the WOLED display used on the original Vision Pros uses an additional color filter, making them less power efficient than next-generation OLEDoS.

Apple Vision Pro 2 release date

As for the release date, Apple Vision Pro 2 will debut in the distant future, sometime in 2027. At the time of writing, we were still a few weeks away from the original Vision Pro launch, which shows where Vision Pro 2 is in the timeline.

Additionally, an affordable Vision Pro is in the works and is expected to arrive sometime in 2025. It will use the same mechanics as the original Vision Pro, but with a few features removed to make it cost-effective. But there is some skepticism, so take it with a grain of salt. The current original Vision Pro costs $3,499.

You can follow Smartprix on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Google News.
