A smorgasbord of NRL talent will hit the open market in a fortnight\u2019s time. For some it\u2019s an opportunity to test their value, while others will be on the hunt for a new club.<\/p>\n

Roosters superstars Joey Manu and Luke Keary<\/a> as well as three-time premiership winner Jarome Luai headline a seriously impressive list of players coming off contract at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n

It means if they aren\u2019t locked in by their current clubs before November 1, they become free agents and can negotiate with rivals for 2025 and beyond.<\/p>\n

Also on the list is reigning Dally M Five-eighth of the Year Ezra Mam, Knights duo Bradman Best and Jacob Saifiti as well as Cowboys playmaker Tom Dearden.<\/p>\n

All of which are expected to attract the interest of several clubs.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the veterans like Adam Reynolds, Josh Papalii, Kieran Foran, Shaun Johnson and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who face a big decision on their future after more than a decade in the NRL.<\/p>\n

Adam Reynolds<\/b> may not have got the job done on grand final day but he did lead the Broncos from a late-season implosion in 2022 to a top-two finish and a spot in the big dance 12 months later. That is more than enough to convince the Broncos they must extend their skipper and star halfback \u2014 and so the club began negotiations in September. The 33-year-old joined the Broncos in 2022 thinking he\u2019d retire at the end of 2024 but turned back the clock to produce his career-best form this year. While Reynolds is a sure-thing to stay at the Broncos, his halves partner Ezra Mam<\/b><\/a> could end up getting snatched by a rival club. Mam had his best season to date too and was rewarded with a spot in the Dally M Team of the Year. Mam, who is said to be earning around $250,000 a year, could demand double in his next contract. But with superstar fullback Reece Walsh due for an upgrade, there was a genuine fear the Broncos won\u2019t have enough cash to match what Mam is expected to be offered by rival clubs. But in a promising sign, Mam told News Corp<\/i> earlier this month that his \u201caim\u201d is to remain in Red Hill. There\u2019s been reports suggesting Mam has been tabled a long-term offer between three and five years but there\u2019s been no official word on whether he has accepted it. Veteran winger Corey Oates <\/b>has fallen down the pecking order of wingers but he has revealed he is taking up his option for 2024 \u2014 but accepting a pay-cut. Kurt Capewell<\/b> declared in September that he hopes to finish his career at the Broncos but said talks over his future would be had in the off-season, while Jordan Riki<\/b> has also spoke of his intention to stay put.<\/p>\n

RAIDERS<\/b><\/p>\n

Analysis:<\/b> Put a line through veterans Jordan Rapana<\/b> and Elliott Whitehead<\/b> because coach Ricky Stuart revealed the duo will retire at the end of the 2024 season. And after initially informing the Raiders of his plans to test his value on the open market, Jamal Fogarty <\/b>has reportedly re-signed for 2025 with an option for 2026. It\u2019s a big win<\/a> for the club given star five-eighth Jack Wighton will join the Rabbitohs next season. Josh Papalii <\/b>has retired from representative football<\/a>, so complete retirement wouldn\u2019t be too far away for the 31-year-old. It\u2019s hard to see him move on from the nation\u2019s capital after spending his entire career \u2014 13 years \u2014 there so it\u2019s unlikely joining a rival club would even be on his mind. Papalii\u2019s decision for 2025, which will have to be agreed upon by the Raiders, will likely come down to either play on for another year or retirement. Nick Cotric<\/b> had an injury-riddled season and fell out of favour at times so the Raiders may sit tight on his situation until later on, while Ata Mariota<\/b> and Trey Mooney<\/b> are considered key players in the club\u2019s future so it\u2019s unlikely the Raiders will let any rivals get close to swooping on them.<\/p>\n

BULLDOGS<\/b><\/p>\n

Analysis: Jacob Kiraz<\/b> headlines a list of mainly fringe players coming off contract at the end of 2024 at the Bulldogs. Kiraz has become a fan favourite in Belmore, enjoying a rapid rise since his NRL debut in 2022. While there\u2018s been talk of a mass clean-out at the Bulldogs it\u2019s highly unlikely Kiraz will be a part of that given coach Cameron Ciraldo has said before he\u2019s the type of player the club wants to build around. By all reports Toby Sexton<\/b> and Liam Knight<\/b> made a good first impression on the club after joining mid-2023, but the likes of Chris Patolo<\/b>, Jeral Skelton<\/b> and Ethan Quai-Ward<\/b> had limited opportunities in first grade and Reece Hoffman<\/b> hasn\u2019t tasted NRL since 2020 with his former club, the Tigers. Max King<\/b> has built a reputation as one of the team\u2019s hardest-workers but there\u2019s been no talk yet on what his future holds. <\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>The Sharks face an up-hill battle to retain the versatile Connor Tracey<\/b>, who did an admirable job filling in for the injured Will Kennedy at fullback in the back end of the season but will revert to being a back-up next year. Tracey has reportedly asked for an immediate release for next season but the club rejected it. He is free to negotiate with rivals for 2025 though from November 1 and it was reported that the Dragons are very interested in his services. Front-row duo Toby Rudolf<\/b> and Braden Hamlin-Uele<\/b> will likely be priority re-signings, while Tom Hazelton<\/b> emerged as a real breakout star of 2023 so expect the club to take up the option in his contract. The player to keep an eye on is Matt Moylan<\/b>. He reinvented himself in 2022 under coach Craig Fitzgibbon to earn a two-year extension, but struggled defensively at times this year and was eventually dropped from the 17. It\u2019s unlikely the Sharks will be in any hurry to lock him in beyond 2024, especially with talented playmaker Braydon Trindall locked in until the end of 2025.<\/p>\n

TITANS<\/b><\/p>\n

Off-contract 2024: <\/b>Isaac Liu, Jacob Alick, Joe Stimson, Kieran Foran, Klese Haas, Tom Weaver, Treymain Spry<\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>Veteran playmaker Kieran Foran <\/b>headlines the list of players set to hit the open market. Foran will be 34-years old by the time his current contract expires. He admitted on the Fox League Podcast earlier this season that \u201cage isn\u2019t on my side\u201d but said \u201cI\u2019d be a brave man<\/a> to write myself off.\u201d And that\u2019s true. He\u2019s pushed through several career-threatening injuries to play 282 NRL games over 15 seasons. He knows it\u2019s a \u201cresults-driven business\u201d though and \u201cneed to be getting results and having the impact\u201d to keep his career alive. The Kiwi international has a great relationship with incoming coach Des Hasler, which could help his chances for an extensions but it\u2019s expected he\u2019ll wait until next year to make a call on whether he wants to play on. Like Foran, 32-year-old Isaac Liu is heading towards the end of his career, so both he and the club may sit tight on any talks over his future until next season. Klese Haas<\/b>, on the other hand, is just at the beginning of his career. The Sydney Morning Herald<\/i> reported the Raiders might turn their attention to the 21-year-old brother of Payne Haas after missing out on Keaon Koloamatangi. Jacob Alick <\/b>only just signed on for 2024 last week<\/a> so it\u2019s highly unlikely there\u2019ll be movement in regards to his long-term future any time soon.<\/p>\n

DOLPHINS<\/b><\/p>\n

Off contract 2023: <\/b>Kurt Donoghoe, JJ Collins, Poasa Faamausili<\/p>\n

Off contract 2024:<\/b>Anthony Milford, Edrick Lee, Euan Aitken, Jarrod Wallace, Jesse Bromwich, Kodi Nikorima, Mark Nicholls, Mason Teague (MO 2025), Ray Stone, Robert Jennings (MO 2025), Tesi Niu, Valynce Te Whare<\/p>\n

Analysis:<\/b>Anthony Milford<\/b> had a disappointing season at the Dolphins and at this stage it appears he could be heading elsewhere despite having year left on his contract. Reports suggest Super League side Leigh Leopards are interested in signing the 29-year-old \u2014 and the Dolphins won\u2019t stand in his way. Centre Euan Aitken<\/b> is reportedly being offered to other clubs a year before his contract is due to expire and is another on the radar of Super League clubs. It\u2019s not totally surprising with the arrival of centres Herbie Farnworth and Jake Averillo from next season, which will cause a logjam in the position. For that reason, cult hero Valynce Te Whare\u2019s <\/b>place on the roster may be tentative. He showed enough in his debut season to be given a chance in 2024 to impress for an extension. Representative forward Jarrod Wallace<\/b> was solid this season and if not re-signed by the Dolphins, will likely attract interest from other teams, but at the end of 2024, he\u2019ll be pushing 34. Dolphins captain Jesse Bromwich <\/b>is another veteran forward who may be on his last NRL contract. The Dolphins\u2019 Swiss Army knife Kodi Nikorima<\/b> showed his worth in 2023, stepping up to play a number of positions when injuries struck. He\u2019ll fetch interest from rival clubs as he still has plenty to offer, so the Dolphins will have to be quick to decide whether to offer Nikorima an extension. Coach Wayne Bennett is a big fan of Mark Nicholls<\/b>, but he\u2019ll be 34-years old before a ball is even kicked next season so a call on his future will likely wait until later next year. <\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>The Sea Eagles are in pretty good shape heading into November 1, with only a handful of regular first-graders set to hit the open market. Hooker Lachlan Croker<\/b> was Manly\u2019s 2022 best-and-fairest winner and the club will be keen to lock down the reliable hooker this month. Of the rest, second rower Ben Trbojevic<\/b> and winger Christian Tuipolotu<\/b> played the most games this season (12 each). Zac Fulton<\/b>, the grandson of Immortal Bob Fulton, has been told he\u2019s free to speak with rival clubs after making just one NRL appearance since joining the club. The versatile Karl Lawton<\/b> has also been given permission to leave immediately if he can find a better deal elsewhere. <\/p>\n

STORM<\/b><\/p>\n

Off-contract 2023: <\/b>Dean Ieremia, George Jennings, Grant Anderson, Jordan Grant, Tepai Moeroa<\/p>\n

Off-contract 2024:<\/b> Aaron Pene, Joe Chan (MO 2025), Marion Seve, Nick Meaney, Reimis Smith<\/p>\n

Analysis: Nick Meaney <\/b>was one of the Storm\u2019s best and most important players this season but he is weeks away from hitting the open market. A breakout season filling in at fullback for Ryan Papenhuyzen would\u2019ve undoubtedly increased Meaney\u2019s value and now it\u2019s up to the Storm to work out their next move before rivals can swoop on him. Papenhuyzen is due back from an ankle injury early next season, meaning Meaney will likely have to vacate the No.1 jersey. There was talk of him becoming Melbourne\u2019s bench utility but the rise of Sua Faalogo might change those plans. A move to the centres could solve that problem, but it seems like the power is in Meaney\u2019s hands when it comes to his next contract move. Reimis Smith lost his spot in the 17 at one stage this season, while Aaron Pene<\/b> and Marion Seve<\/b> got limited opportunities in first grade. Joe Chan<\/b> only got one taste of NRL this year and took bit of time to find his feet in Queensland Cup so it\u2019s expected the club will wait a little longer before making a call. <\/p>\n

Off-contract 2024:<\/b> Bradman Best, Dane Gagai, Enari Tuala, Jacob Saifiti, Krystian Mapapalangi, Mat Croker, Phoenix Crossland, Tyson Gamble<\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>There is a stack of talent in the Hunter set to hit the open market. Bradman Best<\/b> is coming off his best season to date in which he made his State of Origin debut. The Knights are confident they will be able to re-sign Best on a deal said to be worth upwards of $700,000 a season. However it was recently revealed the Tigers are prepared to make a play for the 22-year-old on a $800,000-a-year deal if he does hit the open market on November 1. Daniel Saifiti\u2019s future at the Knights is under the cloud, but there\u2019s been no talk about his twin brother, Jacob<\/b>, leaving. The 27-year-old had another solid year and by the end of it had overtaken his brother as starting prop. Phoenix Crossland<\/b> had a breakout year while filling in for Jayden Brailey at hooker and is set to be rewarded with a new deal. Veteran centre Dane Gagai turned back the clock this year but he will be 34-years old before the 2025 season even starts. Meanwhile, Tyson Gamble<\/b> will likely hit the market as he battles it out with the incoming Jack Cogger for a spot in the halves.<\/p>\n

COWBOYS<\/b><\/p>\n

Off-contract 2023: <\/b>Ben Hampton, Brendan Elliott, Gehamat Shibasaki, Jake Bourke, Jordan McLean, Mitch Dunn, Taniela Sadrugu<\/p>\n

Off-contract 2024<\/b>: Chad Townsend, Coen Hess, Heilum Luki (PO 2025), Jake Granville, Jake Clifford, Jamayne Taunoa-Brown, Kyle Feldt, Sam McIntyre, Semi Valemei, Tom Dearden, Tom Chester<\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>The Cowboys have both their halves heading for the open market but the focus should be squarely on retaining 22-year-old Tom Dearden<\/b>. The gun No. 6 is the future of North Queensland and the club tabled a $2 million three-year extension back in August, but it\u2019s yet to be signed. Dearden could field offers up to $1 million on the open market due to a shortage of quality playmakers in the NRL. \u201cHe is only young so we\u2019d love to have him here for another few years,\u201d Cowboys general manager Michael Luck said. \u201cWith a longer term deal for a younger player, you want to make sure the deal is good for both club and player. Sometimes they take a bit longer to work through. Hopefully he agrees on a deal and we can keep him here for a long term.\u201d Chad Townsend<\/b> worked wonders for the Cowboys resurgence in 2022, but he\u2019ll be 34 in 2025 and is unlikely to attract much attention on the open market. Backrower Heilum Luki<\/b>, who has the power in his hands for 2025, has a big future but the 22-year-old is still trying to find consistency in the NRL.<\/p>\n

EELS<\/b><\/p>\n

Off-contract 2024:<\/b> Andrew Davey, Bailey Simonsson, Daejarn Asi, Haze Dunster (MO 2025), Jirah Momoisea, Ky Rodwell, Makahesi Makatoa<\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>The Eels lost a host of stars following their 2022 grand final appearance but in the club\u2019s defence they\u2019ve got all their current stars locked down long term. Parramatta\u2019s halves Mitchell Moses and Dylan Brown, fullback Clint Gutherson, front-rowers Junior Paulo and Reagan Campbell-Gillard are all locked down until at least the end of 2025. Samoa halfback Daejarn Asi<\/b> is stuck behind Moses and will likely head to the open market, while Maori All Stars representative Bailey Simonsson<\/b> is expected to re-sign with the club. Andrew Davey<\/b> is reportedly weighing up medical retirement due to multiple concussions.<\/p>\n

PANTHERS<\/b><\/p>\n

Off-contract 2023: <\/b>Chris Smith, Eddie Blacker<\/p>\n

Off-contract 2024:<\/b> Daine Laurie, Jarome Luai, Luke Garner, Matt Eisenhuth, Mitch Kenny, Paul Alamoti, Sunia Turuva, Taylan May, Tyrone Peachey, Zac Hosking<\/p>\n

Analysis: <\/b>Remarkably, the three-time reigning premiers only have one genuine star coming off contract in polarising No. 6 Jarome Luai<\/b>. The Panthers have told Luai they cannot afford to pay him $800,000 per season due to salary cap pressure and they\u2019ve accepted the playmaker will test his value on the open market. The Bulldogs and Tigers are reportedly preparing to table offers well over the $1 million mark, which will likely see Luai leave the foot of the mountains after already winning three premiership rings. Penrith officials will turn their attention to retaining Fijian flyer Sunia Turuva<\/b>, who was crowned Dally M Rookie of the Year, and 22-year-old outside back Taylan May<\/b>, who missed the entire 2023 NRL season with a knee injury. Mitch Kenny<\/b> has filled the shoes of Api Koroisau with aplomb and with a hooker shortage across the league, the No. 9 could almost certainly secure a pay rise on the open market. But with no clear option knocking on the door at Penrith for his jersey, expect the club to prioritise his signature too.<\/p>\n

Analysis<\/b>: The biggest name at South Sydney set to hit the open market is Maroons forward Jai Arrow<\/b>. The Rabbitohs have reportedly offered Arrow a three-year extension worth $2.5 million that will keep him at the club until the end of 2027. But Arrow hasn\u2019t put pen to paper which suggests he wants to test his value on the open market. Peter Mamouzelos<\/b>, 22, is seen as the long-term replacement for veteran hookerDamien Cookand the club won\u2019t want to lose him. Isaiah Taas<\/b> has been a regular in the centres for the Bunnies since making his NRL debut in Round 6 last year, but with a tight cap \u2014 and Jack Wighton arriving to play in the centres \u2014 the club could lose the 24-year-old to a cashed-up rival. Meanwhile, there\u2019s murmurs that England international prop Tom Burgess<\/b> could return to the UK to link up with brother Sam, who has been appointed head coach of Warrington. <\/b><\/p>\n

Analysis<\/b>: No club has more star power hitting the open market on November 1 than the Roosters. Rival clubs can come for the likes of Joey Manu<\/b>, Brandon Smith<\/b> and Angus Crichton<\/b>, as well as veterans Luke Keary<\/b> and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves<\/b>. <\/a>Manu was linked with incoming Dragons coach Shane Flanagan keen to throw big money at him, but Roosters coach Trent Robinson has declared \u201che\u2019ll be here, I\u2019d say, at the end of his career\u201d. Manu\u2019s worth to the Roosters has arguably gone up since Joseph Suaali\u2019i signed with Rugby<\/a> Australia. The club will no longer be forced to pick who will take over James Tedesco\u2019s No.1 jersey one day \u2014 the Chooks are all-in on Manu. High-profile recruit Brandon Smith didn\u2019t hit his straps until late in the 2023 season and despite only just joining the club this year, his player option in 2025 means he can negotiate with clubs from November 1 until he triggers it. Rising second rower Siua Wong<\/b> only made his NRL debut in Round 18 but the 20-year-old made an immediate impression and is reportedly being chased by several rival clubs and Rugby Australia. Crichton has been heavily linked with a code switch and the Roosters have told the backrower he can negotiate with rugby union clubs. Johnson is in career-best form at the ripe old age of 33 and was denied this year\u2019s Dally M Medal by just one vote. Considering Sea Eagles<\/a> halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, who turns 35 in February, is showing no signs of slowing down then clubs will certainly be interested in Johnson for 2025 when he\u2019ll be 35. Warriors skipper Tohu Harris<\/b> is also on the wrong side of 30 but like his halfback, the lock is ageing like a fine wine. Harris, 31, will hit the open market on November 1 alongside Dally M Winger of the Year Dallin Watene-Zelezniak<\/b>. The speedster is one of the highest-paid wingers in the NRL on around $600,000 but he could bump that up further at a struggling club after scoring 24 ties in 20 games this year. In any case, Utoikamanu has a mutual option for 2025 which means he can negotiate with rival clubs from November 1.
