Apple reveals discount pricing feature for subscriptions in the App Store\u060c<\/p>\n

An article on the Apple Developer Website<\/a> (via 9to5Mac<\/a>) reveals that a new \u201cconditional pricing\u201d feature will be available in the App Store. Subscription gets its name because customers can receive a discount on a subscription provided they have an active subscription to another publication. This discount will continue to be offered each month as long as the customer remains subscribed to both publications.<\/div>\n
Here's what Apple told developers on the website: “Contingent pricing for subscriptions on the App<\/a> Store – a new feature that helps you attract and retain subscribers – lets you offer customers a price discounted subscription fee as long as they are actively subscribed to another subscription. It can be used for subscriptions of one developer or two different developers. We are currently testing this feature and will onboard more developers in the coming months.<\/div>\n
Apple goes on to say that developers should start<\/a> planning how they will incorporate conditional pricing into their App Store pricing strategies. A link on the website will allow developers to sign up to receive a notification from Apple in January, at which time the company will notify developers of more details regarding “contingent pricing.”<\/div>\n

In explaining exactly what “conditional pricing” is, Apple writes: “For example, you could offer premium Ocean Journal subscribers the opportunity to subscribe to Mountain Climber for a discounted price of $4.99\/month instead of the usual $5.99\/month. reduced price as long as they remain subscribed to Ocean Journal.<\/p>\n

As Apple writes to developers, the tech giant explains how customers will be able to find posts in the App Store offering “conditional pricing.” Apple says customers will find the discounted prices in a publication's App Store listing, in off-platform marketing channels, and in intended App Store placements.<\/p>\n

Apple says it will help developers manage the implementation of “contingent pricing” by providing customers with “a seamless trading and purchasing experience” based on the contingent price proposition that developers will provide.<\/p>\n
