{"id":13887,"date":"2023-12-09T09:01:49","date_gmt":"2023-12-09T06:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/13887\/tennis-hall-of-famer-evert\/"},"modified":"2023-12-09T09:01:49","modified_gmt":"2023-12-09T06:01:49","slug":"tennis-hall-of-famer-evert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/?p=13887","title":{"rendered":"Tennis Hall of Famer Evert taking break after cancer returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tennis Hall of Famer Evert taking break after cancer returns\u060c<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Tennis Hall of Famer Chris Evert has been diagnosed with a cancer recurrence and is once again undergoing treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-time Grand Slam champion said in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ESPNPR\/status\/1733229699029930322\">statement released Friday via ESPN<\/a> that the cancer was discovered after she underwent a series of medical tests this week.  She is an on-air anchor for ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>The release said Evert, who was first diagnosed with early-stage ovarian cancer in December 2021, has started chemotherapy treatments again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this is a diagnosis I never wanted to hear, I once again feel fortunate that it was caught early,\u201d she said in the release.  Based on a PET-CT scan, I underwent another robotic surgery last <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/week\/\"   title=\"week\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">week<\/a>. The doctors found cancer cells in the same pelvic area. All the cells were removed and I started another <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/tag\/series\/\"   title=\"series\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">series<\/a> of chemotherapy.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline editorial float-r\" data-behavior=\"article_related\">\n<h2 class=\"editorial-title\">Editor&#39;s Choice<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/1702101709_961_Tennis-Hall-of-Famer-Evert-taking-break-after-cancer-returns.jpg&#038;w=130&#038;h=130&#038;scale=crop&#038;location=center.jpeg\" width=\"65\" height=\"65\"\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 Related<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Evert, 68, said she was temporarily stepping away from her ESPN coverage duties to seek treatment and &#8220;will not be able to join my colleagues when ESPN returns to Melbourne for the Australian Open this month next&#8221;, but says she will.  \u201cReady for the rest of the Grand Slam season!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evert won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings and was inducted into the International Hall of Fame in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Her sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin, died of ovarian cancer in February 2020 at age 62.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage everyone to know your family history and advocate for you,\u201d Evert said in the release.  &#8220;Early detection saves lives.
