While it works wonderfully and I greatly enjoyed the time spent watching movies and playing games using it, there is one important caveat that potential buyers should be aware of before investing.

4K?

The projector's main selling point, its “True 4K UHD” resolution, is somewhat misleading. Every input I tried displayed a native resolution of 1080p. Although a 4K signal can be accepted, it seems undersampled.

It's likely that the Paris Rhône SP005 uses pixel shifting technology to simulate a full 3840×2160 output. While it still looks good on smaller screen sizes, those looking to go beyond 100-inch around would surely like the “True 4K UHD” resolution announced.

Fairly bright

Capping at 600 ANSI lumens might be a problem for some, but I'm quite happy with the brightness in my dimly lit living room area. If you have a semi-treated space where you can block out all sunlight, then I think you will be quite happy with the result.

The Paris Rhône SP005 doesn't suffer from the washed-out contrast and colors that other low-brightness projectors often do, and I feel like its brightness is pretty consistent across the board.

Turn up the volume

The sound quality of the Paris Rhône SP005 is a definite asset, capable of being sufficient in itself for movie viewing sessions. Obviously, a dedicated solution is better for home theater setups, but the two-speaker system is more than enough to satisfy on its own. The volume gets loud enough to recreate the battle scene from Avengers: Endgame in epic style.

Almost automatic

Features like autofocus, keystone correction, and intelligent obstacle avoidance are designed to simplify the setup process. They work well enough to get users 90% of the way there, but I found that I had to manually change the settings for optimal sharpness.

To play or not to play

When it comes to gaming, the Paris Rhône SP005 holds up well against other projectors of similar specifications. For casual use it's perfectly fine and all single-player games work well. However, for competitive shooters and hardcore titles like Elden Ring, latency can become a hindrance. It's not terrible or anything, but gamers looking for a “4K gaming projector” that prioritizes lower latency above all else will probably want to look elsewhere.

Final verdict

At its price of $699, the Paris Rhône SP005 should have been a no-brainer with the advertised specs. However, since the promised “True 4K UHD” didn't hold up in my testing, this projector isn't quite the must-have product it initially seemed to be. Instead, it's a solid option for the price that checks a lot of lower midrange boxes.

However, potential buyers may opt for a more well-known brand or, for GameRevolution.com readers in particular, a projector better suited to gamers.

Disclosure: Exam Sample SP005 provided by Paris Rhone.

Positive and negative points

Good image quality, but not “true 4K”.

Solid sound output.

Quiet operation.

Subtle and elegant design with good build quality.

The lack of true 4K output is disappointing considering the spec sheet.

The automatic features are good but not perfect.

Latency becomes apparent in competitive gaming.

Paris Rhone SP005 Projector Review، THE Paris Rhône SP005 makes big promises, especially at the $699 price point, which could make it one of the most cost-effective projectors on the market.
