{"id":13037,"date":"2023-12-05T17:22:23","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T14:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/13037\/amanda-serrano-vacates-wbc-belt\/"},"modified":"2023-12-05T17:22:24","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T14:22:24","slug":"amanda-serrano-vacates-wbc-belt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wikidollar.net\/?p=13037","title":{"rendered":"Amanda Serrano vacates WBC belt over 12-round fight stance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amanda Serrano vacates WBC belt over 12-round fight stance\u060c<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano relinquished her WBC title after the organization refused to allow her to compete under the same rules as men&#39;s boxing, with 12 three-minute rounds.<\/p>\n<p>Women&#39;s championship fights generally last no more than 10 rounds, with each round lasting two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Serrano, 35, who has unified the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine titles, was among the female boxers who launched a campaign in October for the choice to compete under the same rules as men.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data- media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data- media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">Amanda Serrano is the current featherweight champion. <cite>Photo by Alex Livesey\/Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Serrano, of Puerto Rico, defeated Danila Ramos by unanimous decision later that month, which was the first time a women&#39;s title fight was fought over 12 three-minute rounds.<\/p>\n<p>While other governing bodies recognized the fight as a title defense for Serrano, the WBC did not sanction the fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe WBC refused to move the sport toward equality, so I am relinquishing the title,\u201d Serrano said on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a sanctioning body is not willing to give me and my fellow fighters the choice to fight the same way as men, then I will not fight for that sanctioning body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am the only boxer, male or female, from Puerto Rico to become undisputed champion. I am the only female boxer to have won titles in seven divisions,&#8221; Serrano said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am the first female boxer, with Katie [Taylor] \u00bb to headline Madison Square Garden. In basketball, the basket is shorter and the ball is smaller and these are not contact sports.
