Oddly configured Dimensity 9300 SoC throttles during stress test losing 46% of its performance\u060c<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, we told you about the unusual configuration of MediaTek’s new flagship Dimensity 9300 chipset. The octa-core processor consists of four Cortex-X4 Prime processor cores and four Cortex-A720 Performance processor cores. There are no low-power CPU cores like other application CPUs. While this means the Dimensity 9300 SoC is powerful, it also means the chipset is prone to overheating.<\/p>\n

Each thread is a series<\/a> of instructions given to the CPU by an application or program. Asking the CPU to handle such a workload puts strain on the cores, causing them to overheat and throttle. When throttling, the clock speed of one of the cores dropped to 0.60 GHz, with the remaining cores dropping to 1.20 GHz and 1.50 GHz. The maximum clock speed of the chip is 3.25 GHz on which the Cortex-X4 Prime processor cores operated by default.

Worse, the chip was tested on the Vivo X100 Pro<\/a>, which features a vapor chamber which is a heat pipe used to dissipate heat to the coldest area of \u200b\u200bthe chamber and away from the chipset. Even though the Dimensity 9300 is produced using TSMC’s energy-efficient 4nm N4P process node, chip throttling began in just two minutes.<\/p>\n

MediaTek probably thought it could compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by leaving out all the Efficiency CPU cores like the Cortex-A520. But we’ll have to go back to the drawing board next year for the Dimensity 9400. And yes, given that the CPU throttling test is a test that can have a serious impact on the thermal performance of even more balanced chipsets, in For regular daily use, phones based on the Dimensity 9300 AP, such as the Vivo X100 Pro, will likely do just fine. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n
