Threads Finally Allows Users To Delete Their Account Without Losing Instagram،
Instagram Threads is one of the hottest apps of all time. Soon after its release earlier this year, the app managed to attract over 100 million users, breaking ChatGPT’s record. While OpenAI’s chatbot attracted that many users in about two months, the hype around threads helped the platform gain 100 million users in just five days. Clearly, this was a milestone in the app’s journey. Since then, Instagram has been working to add more features to the platform.
Until now, Threads users did not have the option to delete their account
At the time of launch, usage of Threads was entirely dependent on the user’s Instagram account. While this resulted in a seamless login process, it did not allow users to delete their Threads account without losing their Instagram account. This seemed unnatural, as users should be able to jump in and out of a microblogging platform at will. However, the microblogging app fixed the problem. In a recent post, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that users can now delete their Threads profile without touching their Instagram account.
Here are the new options available to Threads users
The announcement comes as a relief for people who did not find the platform attractive enough but were unable to delete their profile because they did not want to give up their Instagram account. There are two ways to go off-grid on Threads.
First, users can deactivate their profile, which would hide their content, likes, and followers from other users on the platform unless they log back in and reactivate their profile. Secondly, users can delete their account, thereby permanently removing their profile and associated details from the platform within 30 days.
How to delete or deactivate a Threads profile
To delete their Threads profile without affecting their Instagram account, users need to open the app and go to Settings > Account > Delete or Deactivate Profile. On the next screen, users should encounter the two options explained above.
Users have the option to deactivate their profile if they are looking for a temporary break. If so, users should tap “Deactivate Profile” and follow the on-screen instructions. On the other hand, if users want to leave the platform once and for all, they need to click on the “Delete Profile” option.
