Logan Paul: ‘I think I have to’ be around WWE more after title win

WWE fans will likely see even more of Logan Paul, at least in the short term.

Paul, the YouTuber, boxer and professional wrestler, defeated Rey Mysterio to win the WWE United States Championship on Saturday at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. This is Paul’s first victory in WWE. He’s only had eight career professional wrestling matches, but he’s been a fixture on WWE’s big shows for about a year and a half. Paul said winning a WWE title was a “bucket list” moment for him.

For the most part, Paul worked part-time in WWE. That may not change completely, but the social media phenomenon told ESPN on Saturday, minutes after winning the belt, that he’ll likely make more appearances with the promotion. After all, he has to defend his title.

“I think I have to do it,” Paul said of devoting more time to WWE programming. “You’re going to have to watch Raw. You’re going to have to watch SmackDown. I’m going to make some surprise appearances and show these wrestlers who the real king is.”

Paul, 28, had a boxing match against Dillon Danis just three weeks ago, which he won by disqualification. After beating Mysterio, Paul said he was much more tired during nearly 18 minutes with Mysterio than he would be after a boxing match.

“It was barely a performance,” Paul said of the Danis fight. “I wouldn’t even call it a fight. Tonight, it was a fight. Tonight, it was hard. I’m telling you, brother. I’m out of breath. I feel like I really deserved this. So I see these comments online.” Logan Paul, spoon-fed, silver spoon in his mouth. Everything has been given to him throughout his life. He didn’t deserve it.

“I’ll do more in 12 hours than most people do in 12 months. My plan can’t be duplicated, brother. My pace is unmatched. I don’t play the same game as everyone else. I beat the matrix and I am the architect.”

It is not clear who Paul’s first enemy might be in defending his title. But there is no shortage of possibilities. Paul, despite his lack of experience, showed uncanny skills and ability to work in the ring. His performances received critical acclaim.

There’s a score he could settle with another big star outside of WWE who wrestles from time to time: Bad Bunny. When asked about the Puerto Rican reggaeton star, Paul said he might be interested and that both have the same rating – 84 – in the video game WWE 2k23. Paul currently lives and trains boxing in Puerto Rico.

“He’s good, but he’s skinny, man,” Paul said. “I’m pushing 250 [pounds]. …He has the same grade as me, so maybe I don’t know anything. Maybe we are the same. Maybe we’ll have to settle this in the ring. »

Whether the match happens, it’s clear that Paul will be a bigger presence in WWE. He just doesn’t know exactly how much.

“I have a bit of professional ADHD,” he said. “So wherever my attention goes, wherever people are most entertained. And right now, that’s WWE, and [I’m] I just focused on building my brands and protecting that belt, keeping it around my waist. »
