Samsung rolls out free cloud backups for Galaxy flagships, but there is a catch،
Samsung is simplifying the challenge of finding enough storage space for smartphone backups with its new free solution. Named Temporary Cloud Backup, this service is designed for Galaxy smartphone and tablet users, giving them access to as much temporary storage as they need.
Samsung Temporary Cloud Backup provides users with free cloud file storage for 30 days. There is a file size restriction of 100 GB each; However, users can store unlimited files through their Samsung device running One UI 6.0 or above, which is another stipulation.
“This enhanced Samsung Cloud-based switching experience aims to assure Samsung Galaxy users that valuable data will not be lost, thanks to the connected power of the Galaxy ecosystem.” said Chiyoung Seo, Vice President and Head of Cloud Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.
Temporary cloud backup would be particularly useful in scenarios where users might fear data loss, such as when repairing a smartphone. Samsung has integrated temporary cloud backup in maintenance mode, ensuring personal data, including secure folder files, are safely backed up for recovery after repair.
Initially, this feature is rolling out to Galaxy S models (from Galaxy S21 to Galaxy S23 Ultra) and Z series models (from Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 to the latest Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5) running One UI 6.0 or higher for users in South Korea. Global availability is expected to gradually increase starting this fall.
