Google knows the Fitbit Charge 5 bricking phenomenon is not due to updates, but doesn’t know what’s causing it،
Scotty doesn't know it, and Google doesn't know it either. What they don't know is what makes many Fitbit Charge 5 trackers completely unusable – the correct term is “bricked”, as many devices are dying and show no signs of life even when they are in charge.
Google, however, knows what it is not provoking him. According to the search engine giant (Google owns Fitbit), the problems are not caused by software updates. Fitbit Charge 5 owners tend to disagree, to put it mildly (via 9to5Google).
As of mid-July 2023, some Fitbit Charge 5 trackers were cursed and we reported it: users reported that after updating to the latest software version (v194.61), their Charge 5 started to glitch. encounter many problems.
Six months later, the situation is getting worse instead of better. A December update appears to have been linked to another wave of bricked Charge 5 trackers.
Addressing the BBCGoogle says the problem isn't with software updates, but doesn't say what the actual problem is or how affected users can fix the issue aside from contacting support.
A spokesperson said:
We are still investigating this issue, but can confirm that it is not caused by the recent firmware update. Users should continue to update their devices to the latest firmware and contact Fitbit customer support at help.fitbit.com if they experience any issues.
In July 2023, Google offered a discount to affected users, but this time users reported that Fitbit's only solution was to simply buy a new device, this time without even a discount offer.
