Wrexham slammed over ‘stupid statements’ in ticket price row،

Wrexham have been criticized for making “stupid and inappropriate statements” by Accrington Stanley owner Andy Holt after a row over ticket prices broke out ahead of the two teams’ League Two match on Saturday.

Accrington beat the team of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney 2-0 at Wham Stadium after both teams were involved in a public row on X over the home team’s decision to increase their ticket prices for both groups of supporters for this weekend’s match.

Tickets for the match cost £5 more than usual for matches at Accrington Stadium.

“In response to Accrington Stanley’s decision to increase the match price by £5 from that previously charged at Wham Stadium for Championship matches this season, we have decided to reduce the price of tickets for the match from £5 for the return match at STōK Cae Ras. on 03/02/2024″, Wrexham official account posted on.

In response, Accrington chairman Andy Holt said in a statement post on: “When costs are already high @Wrexham_AFC, the last thing football needs is stupid and ill-timed statements.

“It’s surprising how stupid this is given you employ a former @EFL CEO. Let’s have a great and safe day for all the fans, whatever the result on the pitch.”

Shaun Harvey works as a special advisor to the Wrexham board, having spent six years as chief executive of the EFL until 2019.

In response to a fan pointing out Accrington’s price hike, Holt said the increase is the result of an unusually large number of away players, requiring an additional police presence and more stewards, increasing costs for the club.

According to Accrington, 2,587 Wrexham fans were in attendance, just under half of the total crowd of 5,261.

Goals from Tommy Leigh and Rosaire Longelo and a missed second-half stoppage-time penalty by Wrexham talisman Paul Mullin condemned the Welsh side to their first defeat in 12 games.

Wrexham slips to fourth place in League Two, eight points behind leaders Stockport.
