MediaTek Announces Filogic 860 And Filogic 360 Modems Based On Wi-Fi 7،

Taiwan-based chipmaker MediaTek has announced two new Wi-Fi 7 modems, Filogic 860 and Filogic 360. While the former is an industrial solution, the latter is aimed at consumer devices like smartphones and laptops. These offer improved connectivity and higher download/upload speeds. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Wi-Fi 7 modems, specifications, and other related features.

Filogic 860 Wi-Fi 7 modem for business solutions

MediaTek’s Filogic 860 is a Wi-Fi 7-based wireless networking solution. It uses a 6nm low-power design and promises a comprehensive platform that can serve as a mesh node, router, and hotspot. access for other devices. It also supports transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Gbps via dual-band and dual-simultaneous connectivity.

Under the hood, the Wi-Fi modem features a triple-core Arm Cortex-A73 processor, which powers advanced security features and tunneling for service providers and businesses.

While Filogic 860 is a chip aimed at businesses and networking solutions, Filogic 360 offers 2×2 and triple-band support with wireless data transfer speeds of up to 2.9 Gbps. The supported channel bandwidth is 160 MHz. As for Bluetooth, the modem has two Bluetooth v5.4 cores with Low Energy Audio support. It also supports the LC3 codec.

MediaTek also claims that its advanced technology will allow Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth signals to coexist, even if both are set to 2.4 GHz. Although the company has started sampling, the modems will enter mass production by mid-2024. It is worth noting that Wi-Fi 7, as a wireless data transfer protocol, can provide bandwidth up to 46 Gbps. However, no solution, including MediaTek’s latest Wi-Fi 7 modems, comes close to reaching this figure.

Availability of MediaTek Wi-Fi 7 modems

Nonetheless, MediaTek’s Wi-Fi modems still perform better than the Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E modems used by today’s smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other consumer electronics. Since the modems will enter mass production in mid-2024, we should expect to see devices with the modem in late 2024.
