Everton hit with 10-point penalty for financial rule breaches،

Everton have lost 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the season ending in 2021-22, the league announced on Friday.

An independent commission has imposed an immediate deduction which will see Everton move from 14th into the relegation zone, above Burnley on goal difference.

The Premier League said it had filed a complaint against the Merseyside club and referred the matter to the independent commission earlier this year.

“During the proceedings, the club admitted that it had breached the PHI for the period ending the 2021-22 season, but the extent of this breach remained controversial,” the league said in a statement.

“The Commission determined that Everton FC’s calculation of PSR for the relevant period resulted in a loss of £124.5 million ($154.7 million), as claimed by the Premier League, which exceeded the threshold of £105 million authorized under the PSR.”

Everton said the sanction was “totally disproportionate and unfair” and announced their intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League.

“Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and has always respected the integrity of the process,” the club said in a statement.

“The club does not accept that it did not act in the utmost good faith and it does not understand that this is an allegation made by the Premier League during the proceedings.

“The harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission neither fairly nor reasonably reflects the evidence presented.”
