Tyler Brockman is officially an Eagle with the deal signed Saturday.

Hawthorn will receive picks 44 and 63 (currently) in exchange for Brockman returning to WA.

The Hawks forward had requested the trade for family reasons and had named West Coast as his club of choice.

But after Fremantle star Lachie Schultz announced plans to return to Victoria earlier this week – with his club of choice Collingwood – the Dockers then swooped in with a four-year deal.

Despite the sudden interest from Fremantle, Brockman maintained he wanted to be an Eagle where he could team up with friend Liam Ryan in attack.

The Subiaco product played 26 games for the Hawks, scoring 23 goals during his three years at the club.

“We really liked Tyler in his first draft year, so it’s very nice to have this deal done that now brings him to the club,” Eagles roster manager Rohan O’Brien said.

“Clearing the deal at this stage means Tyler can be here for the start of pre-season and he has certainty as he prepares to bring his young family home.”

The Hawks said Brockman “will still be part of the family” once the trade is finalized.

“Becoming a father to beautiful twin girls, his desire to bring his young children and partner home to be with his family in Perth is understandable,” Hawthorn list boss Mark McKenzie said.

“While we know Tyler enjoyed and felt supported during his time at Hawthorn, and would have loved to see him continue his career here, we respected his desire to be traded.

“We would like to thank Tyler for his contribution to our football club, we are very proud of his development on and off the pitch over the last three years.”

Brockman, without a contract, could have gone to the West Coast via the preseason draft if a deal had not been reached.

But good news for Hawthorn, a trade has been completed and the Hawks will get valuable draft picks to combine for a deal on father-son Will McCabe.

The 197cm McCabe is considered crucial to Hawthorn’s rebuild and is dubbed one of the best key players available in this draft.

He’s projected to go in the top 20, meaning the Hawks will need enough draft points to match any rival offer that night.
