There have been a lot of layoffs in the video game industry lately, and unfortunately, there are more to come. Digital Bros – the parent company of the publisher 505 games – announced a restructuring which will lead to a series of job cuts.

Will focus on upcoming sequels

The news comes from a recent Press releasewhich states that the company will review “the organizational structure accordingly to align with the evolving competitive environment in the industry.”

Unfortunately, this means a reduction of around 30% of its global workforce, which will mainly affect the studios themselves.

Adapting to the current video game climate, Digital Bros will “focus its efforts on releasing sequels and new versions of previously successful and established games, with a limited number of new, larger budget productions.

Digital Bros owns a number of development studios, including 505 Games, the publisher behind titles such as Death Stranding, Control, Rocket League and many other well-known names.

The press release does not confirm exactly which teams will be immediately affected by these latest developments. However, it says the layoffs across the brand will not have “an impact on the expected income statement for the 2023-2024 financial year”.

This year has been marked by job losses as publishers, studios and major companies cut staff. Some of these names include Striking Distance Studios, developer of Callisto Protocol, The naughty dog, and, more recently, Amazon. They all made layoffs.

At the time of writing, 505 games has yet to make a statement on Digital Bros’ decision to lay off 30% of its staff.
