Google Photos is rolling out a new feature called “Photo Stack,” promising to make organizing photos much easier than before. We recently explained in detail how it works, but the good news is that you will soon be able to try it for yourself.

Android Authority reports that a Reddit user, alexandriaofwar, said that he received the new Google Photos feature on his Pixel 8 series phone. So it seems that it is no longer in beta testing and is already starting to be deployed.

True to its name, Photo Stack groups similar photos taken together into the same set. This comes in handy when you often take multiple shots at once, like selfies or group photos. This prevents your main photo feed from being flooded with a bunch of similar images.

Once the feature is deployed, Photo Stack will not be automatically enabled. You’ll need to enable it in Settings > Preferences > Google Photos Similar Photo Stack. Once enabled, Google Photos will take the lead in grouping your similar photos together.

If you can’t wait to try this new feature, check if the update has reached your device. Otherwise, it will probably arrive in the coming weeks.

This new Photo Stack feature could be reminiscent of Apple Photos Moments or Amazon’s Photos Memories. Apple Moments automatically groups photos and videos taken on the same day or during an event. Moments and Memories use various factors, such as time, location, people and content, to create their groups. Google Photos follows a similar approach to identifying and grouping photos.

Google Photos is a photo and video storage and sharing service developed by Google. It allows users to store and share photos and videos on various devices including Android and iOS. According to the latest data, more than a billion people around the world use Google Photos.
