Apple is counting on iOS 18 with AI features for better reception on iPhone 16 line-up،

Last week, Apple halted development of iOS 18 and the series of other operating system titles – iPadOS, macOS 15 and watchOS to iron out bugs in the current version of iOS 18 before moving on. thing. Well, we got some awesome details from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman about the shutdown and how Apple is using AI onboard iOS 18 to leverage better iPhone 16 sales ahead of its debut next year.

It’s been two months since iOS 17 officially debuted alongside the iPhone 15 series. With the start of iOS 18 development, Apple is bringing some AI features that will help iPhones withstand the ever-growing suite of Google AI features including Magic Eraser.

Apple decided to stop development to iron out bugs in the current version of the operating system before continuing development. This decision was made by Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of software engineering. The current one-week shutdown would allow Apple developers to fix bugs and issues with the internal version dubbed M1 or the first stage where all major features are integrated.

To shed light on Apple’s iOS development, it involves achieving four milestones lasting approximately six weeks each. Each stage benefits from four weeks of development plus two weeks of bug extermination. A week-long shutdown allowed the developers to iron out most of the bugs that might be discovered later. Note that this shutdown will not affect the timeline of iOS 18 which is expected to debut at WWDC next June, followed by a public launch in September next year.

Additionally, Gurman said the Cupertino-based giant is looking to leverage AI to boost sales of next year’s iPhone 16 series. Note that previous rumors of larger 0.2-inch screens on the Pro models probably won’t hold up. This would allow Apple to focus on making iOS 18 more robust and improving its user experience once it is released alongside the iPhone 16.

Tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) posted on X that the upcoming iPhone 16 will receive a revamped Siri as Apple leverages LLM to make Siri the ultimate and most powerful killer AI app. Siri will be able to automatically complete sentences and answer questions on the spot using AI. Apart from this, Apple is also working on AI-assisted writing in the Pages app as well as slide creation in Keynote. Auto-generated Apple Music playlists are also in the works.

Next year’s iPhone 16 series will be huge with design changes, new features and of course, iOS 18. There will be performance and security improvements on the device as Cupertino prepares to release the version more convincing than the current generation.
