Apple’s iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air are expected to move to OLED displays in a few years. This comes from Apple analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Technology Research.

MacBook Pro will receive OLED followed by MacBook Air

We’ve already covered the latest buzz around the iPad Pro and its majestic upgrade to OLED displays and the Apple M3 chipset which you can read about here. That being said, Pu claims that the Cupertino-based giant intends to update the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro with OLED panels. The timeline for the same is currently 2026. It turns out that this timeline corroborates that of Ross Young (Display Supply Chain Consultants), meaning it probably has some credibility given the reputations of both analysts. Additionally, we will see the MacBook Air get the long-awaited OLED upgrade according to rumors.

The consensus on the OLED timeline is strange. It’s the iPad Pro OLED that will get the OLED display next year (i.e. 2024), followed by the MacBook Pro laptop series in 2026. We could see the dates slip until ‘in 2027, although we can see that the Pro should come first. The MacBook Air will follow the same steps as the Pro in 2027. Its display will likely be made by Samsung Display, Apple’s largest display supplier at present. Pu says we could also see iMac OLED models arriving in the same year (i.e. 2027).

Upgrading to an OLED panel results in better picture quality and energy efficiency. However, Apple will need to address the current screen burn-in issues that would otherwise be a miscommunication for the tech behemoth. We still hope that Apple will take the upgrade cautiously by mitigating the display-related issues.
